Rear bumper repair cost!

Featured Replies

Just had my car in the stealers this morning (approved bodyshop repair) and i've been quoted

What should I do? get the guy/insurance to pay the full cost so my car is like new or do him a favour and get it done on the cheap but worry about the condition of the bumper support, especially in the case of another rear end accident
He didn't exactly do you a favour so get it fixed properly rather than live to regret having made the wrong decision.

Show the guy the quote for the approved repair, take his money and get it repaired elsewhere. Treat SWMBO with the money left over :D

I know but I have guilty concience (hope that spelt right!) as at first look there didn't appear to be much damage, and even now asthetically it's nothing more than a bumper chip and some a bit of fracturing but obviously there appears to be more to it than that?

That seems about right. It's not just the bumper they'll spray, the rear end needs to match and therefore the rear quarters will probably need 'blowing in' as they call it (possibly the tailgate as well) Then it's all labour to polish the lot to perfecto.

I had a quote for 650 to replace and re-spray my rear bumper. Local body shop (that the local Skoda Garage use) said 120+ VAT to repair and re-spray. They replaired my girlfriends Fabia's front bumper when she hit a fox, and it was good as new.

I've recently had the same thing happen to me. Decided to be nice and ask her for £200 to fix the bumper rather than 650 to replace it.

Yet to decide if my charity has given me good Karma though. But she was a student with only 3rd party insurance and I've been there, so I still feel ok about it so far.

The rear beam is only £50 plus VAT and the bumper is around £120 plus VAT. Thats a lot of paint and labour.

That aside the car should be repaired to a good standard regardless of how much it will cost the 3rd party.

Is the car on HP or similar finance, ie do you own it or does someone else?

Its nice to know your a genuine person who doesnt want anyone out of pocket, but if it were me then I'd want the proper repair for it.

The rear beam is only

I own the car, but I did get a bank loan to buy it.

I've gone through the insurance, the guy didn't contact me back about paying for the repair himself so I don't feel bad anymore, he's obviously made his decision which has left me with no alternative, hopefully it can be in the approved bodyshop repair centre by next week

I asked because if the car was on HP etc, then you must normally keep the vehicle in good repair and condition, and will be responsible for any damage to or deterioration of the vehicle except through fair wear and tear. (That is in the Terms of a SkodaAuto Finance agreement). As the car is your own, you are free to repair any damage or ignore it as you wish. Good luck with the repairs.
