Identify this noise??? **VIDEO**

Featured Replies

Skoda Superb 2.0 dsg CFGB

Today I had coil light on, and limp mode intermittent. (Off & on temp fix)

Used a can of Wynn’s EGR cleaner. Coil light off, car seems much quieter than recently. So far so good....

Now I get this sound on startup for 5-8 seconds....

You have another post on here where the fault reader is showing an EGR fault.

I think it sounds like the plastic teeth on the EGR valve motor skipping over the driven teeth.

The EGR is at the back of the engine on that side where the noise is loudest.

Does that mean EGR valve is done? It does sound at the back on further inspection.

So how did me using the EGR cleaner bring this on? The coil light is off now

Using the EGR cleaned probably dislodged some of the black crap which then lodged in the valve.

There are suppliers that sell just the plastic gears.

You will need the part No of your EGR cooler/ valve to get the correct part.

I think they can be renewed without having to remove the cooler which is a great bonus.

But with all the crap in there, time will tell how long the repair will last.

Any idea how I find out the part number or how to fit it?

You can buy the service manuals from https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do An hour's subscription is less than a tenner. EGR replacement takes about 4-6 hours due to the need to remove the DPF first in order to gain access.

I'm fairly sure you can remove the EGR drive motor ( 4 or 5 small torx screws )  with the EGR in situ, the plastic gears are behind the motor.

Probably easiest from underneath the car.

This is a typical VW EGR, the motor is the black part on the left in the first picture & has the part No label on it.

You will need your cars engine code as a start to get the correct part No

Instructions for faster removal. Anyone know how long this would take?

That's almost exactly the same as what's in the Skoda service manual. So still 4-6 hours.

Not if you don't have to remove the EGR to fit the new gears.

The motor faces the bulkhead with the EGR in situ & there apears to be enough room to remove the motor, then change the plastic gears behind & re-fit the motor.

Still akward, but much easier than removing the EGR.

Given that the poster linked this method, it's a reasonable assumption that they're considering replacement of the entire assembly. It may be possible to remove the actuator assembly separately but there's nothing in the service manual on how to go about that.

I wonder if this is connected the to my previous thread a few months back?  There are pics

I was suffering with coolant loss daily. In the end I used Radweld and it 'worked'. There has been what appears to be something wet at the back of the engine ever since it was brought to life after death by cam belt failure last September. Top was totally rebuilt, but never felt right.....

Coolant was low this morning..... Does the EGR leak coolant inside, and thats what the wet is at the rear of the engine? If so, whats the fix?

This looks like the correct part for the CFGB engine.

The hard part is going to be fitting it.

Might be best to have a word with your local garage & se if they can do it.

odd that cfgb is not listed but cfgc and cfgd are.
