1.9asz camshaft replacement

Featured Replies

Hi I’m yet to physically check but I’m thinking my camshaft is on it’s way out,

Can anybody recommend anyone who isn’t to expensive ?

Tps are to expensive even with my trade discount and our non gen suppliers is to expensive too.

Ive had a search on google and there’s redman engine centre for 175 and a Fai one for Just over 200.

with the car being 15 years old don’t really want spend a fortune on it if it is showing signs when I come to inspect it.

Thanks in advance

£175 is as cheap as chips for a new cam and eight followers, must be Chinese monkey metal, I wouldn't risk it, I've seen the FAI kit before and it's acceptable quality.

If you can't afford it then don't do it unless the car doesn't run well enough to drive.

Thanks for the reply, the cars  running well just starting sound a tad noisey,

I should know better really but i just hate  spending money on old cars.

Ive fitted a few fai chains before and they have been ok but as a rule of thumb we try fit genuine but this is come in close to £700 if i remember correctly.

The darkside devolpments is atound £400 are they of good quality do you know?

Your position is illogical, old cars cost far more to maintain than new cars, that's just common sense.

The error you're making is equating value with cost rather than utility, it's incredibly common in the motor trade because cars are viewed purely as a traded commodity, your personal transport has considerable additional value to you.

Not when spending 700 on car worth 1500... thats crazy. But i know what your saying.

We have another car so we can get by,

theres just a varying degree in prices for aftermarket camshafts so it finding one of decent quality for not silly £££

FAI is the cheapest kit of passable quality, there are plenty of Chinese chocolate parts around but you should avoid them, particularly in a PD which is very hard on the top end.

You might be able to get away with just changing the followers for some decent DLC coated replacements without changing the cam itself.
