Octavia Brakes Question for the Techies

Featured Replies

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading the rear brakes on the 4x4.

Now sitting in the garage is a virtually brand new set of callipers & discs that came off the front of the 4x4, would it be possible to fit or easily adapt these to go on the back ???? maybe use the callipers & diff discs.

I guess its a no no as Im sure I would have heard of this before if you could.

failint that I guess its a s/hand set of TT or S3 callipers etc

Stuart,

When I spoke to Bill about his uprated fronts he was talking about too much rear brake and wishing to almost remove them, i.e. but a really cheap road pad on.

Now I know the ibiza is smaller and far lighter, thus the rear will lift more; causing overbraking lock to kick in...

What I'm getting to is; are you actually in need of more braking on the rear given your ap front setup is doing most of the donkey work now.

However I also share the mind set that iccle rear brakes look plain stupid so should be made up to size...you may want to consider a brake bias option...but that is getting way outside my sphere of knowledge.

Agreed they look silly, thats one reason but Ive also noticed after a good thrash the back brakes are working quite hard as theres a reosnable amount of pad dust & the discs are a tadge warm, whether its braking Im not sure, Im wondering if its the ESP stability thing working hard.

I just started thinking yesterday when I came across the box of nearly new brakes in the garage & thought, will these fit ? If yes its a cheap mod

Nope, unless you fit a seperate handbrake.

Ian can do you a set of rear APs, think they're from a TVR.

I drove an Escort Cosworth with decent brakes - I thought mine were good but this had 380mm fronts with water cooled AP 6 pots and 350mm rear 4 pots with titanium pistons - direct from a WRC one! Absolutely awesome!! :D

Re the cossie I guess that set up would cost as much as my car, nice experience driving it though

Think he meant Godspeed...

Must admit my rears normally look dustier than fronts...

Yep, Godney not Cook :D

He was going to fit some 288mm or 312mm single pot ones on mine - he's done it before IIRC
