Something catching at front of car when turning briskly into a junction.

Featured Replies

4x4 Octavia mk1.  18" alloys.  Standard suspension.  Seem to have a strange issue, if I corner briskly to the right(like a 90 degree turn into a road) the car feels like it's running into something, like it's being held back by something and I hear like a dragging catching sort of sound coming from the front of the car as this happens.  It only happens for seconds then the car is fine again.  It only happens when I corner right and briskly.  At first I thought the passenger side front wheel was catching somewhere in the arch, but I have tested the car lock to lock and the tyre does not touch anything.

How? The only test that proves a tyre isn't rubbing somewhere is a clean bill of health from a proper examination of the tyre walls and arch well, since when driving the suspension will be moving in bump and rebound as you turn.

18" alloys, what size tyres? How does the radius/circumference compare to the original wheel/tyre combo?

@sammyhale30

Inertia, shocks, and centrifugal force produce totally different effects than a lock to lock test.

You forgot to mention what is not stock on wheels.
