Handbrake compensator unbalanced

Yes the dust boot can be a fiddle if you don't have the technique.

Here's hoping you don't need the spares, eBay them for some poor soul in a similar position.

In all of my full on ABS stops I took my hands off the steering wheel, there was some instability when the rear suspension unloaded and some weaving, maybe the ASC cut in, also the right rear disc was 100°c hotter than the left although not noticeably dragging so I will be happier with a new pair of balanced calipers without any stiction.

I think it will be more stable with them in an emergency.

As a follow up I fitted a pair of Chinese calipers and bought some repair kits to refurb the old ones as spares.

The cheap chinese ones worked well and were very free moving compared to the old ones, ran them for a few weeks before putting in some decent Ferodo pads a few days ago which have been bedding in and deglazing the discs front and rear, a great improvement over the non branded pads that were bundled with the discs.

Tonight on arriving at the running club I recognised the familiar smell of cooked brakes  sure enough LH rear brake dragging and handbrake which before had a little too much free travel (deliberate) now pulls up on one notch, the footbrake is very firm which I was pleased about with the new pads bedding in but now not so sure.

Off will come the caliper yet again tomorrow lets hope its just the handbrake free play having been taken up with the pads bedding in.

Whilst I have the time at the moment and it keeps me busy this MK2 demands 100 times as much attention as its predecessor the MK1 ever did.
