Another new noise...

 

car has decided to make an odd grinding noise, almost the same sort of noise that the brakes make when they need replacing. Coming from rear passenger side. No sign of anything loose underneath. Been going on for about a week, so assuming not a stone in there 

 

rear brakes inspected twice this year, and were ok both times.

 

the noise appears randomly when turning slowly, ie pulling into a drive.

 

car going into garage for other stuff in a couple of weeks so would like to try and locate this issue for them to fix as well

Quite possibly the wheel bearing on its way out if the brakes appear to be ok.

 

you could jack the rear of the car up and spin the wheel to listen for any noise, make sure the handbrake is off of course.

@Wench I'd agree that your diagnosis or LGM's alternative seem likely. Either way, jack up that corner and support properly, since inspecting for the stone and indeed wobbling and spinning the wheel involve arms (and maybe head) inside the wheel arch then wobble and spin, and if you're not sure it's the bearing then look for a stone between the disc and back plate (rear disc models only).

 

If the wheel feels wobbly, apply the handbrake and repeat: If the wobble goes away then it's the wheel bearing.
