Evap purge solenoid - which one should I get?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am just troubleshooting a "check engine" p0441 but when I took out my purge solenoid valve, black powder was pouring from it and it didn't click after applying voltage to the terminals so for now I'll let myself to "look no further" :)  Very interestingly, after I popped everything back together, the idle has improved a lot. No idea how to explain it - maybe that I've tapped it a lot to get the powder out which closed it properly so it doesn't mess with the fuel ratio... Yet still doesn't seem to work. The light didn't come up but I think just because ECU didn't do the test.

That's a second hand car, but the part I found inside is BOSCH 0 280 142 345. When I'm checking online, it doesn't show up as suitable for my Skoda 1.2 12V BME.

Do you think I could buy one of these, more pleasantly priced?

- Bosch 0 280 142 486

- Bosch 0 280 142 347

It seems these are similarly looking solenoids that are 12V-driven, probably they open when voltage is applied and are connected in the same way and do the same type of job? Or is there something I need to know?

Thanks!

I'm afraid I lack the energy this evening to go outside and look at the valve on either car, or a spare I might have in my shed.  I can tell you that the VW group part number should be 6Q0 906 517 according to this page (item 11) https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2006-453/1/133-133015/#11

If any/all of the Bosch part numbers you quote claim equivalence with that VW group part number, I'd expect it should work OK.

I guess the black powder is charcoal dust from the charcoal canister near the fuel tank.  There's supposed to be a filter on the input end of the purge valve to stop that getting in and gumming up the valve, but I guess there's a minimum particle size that can catch.

Thanks again, just coming back to share feedback after some 800 motorway miles!

I ended up buying 0 280 142 347 based on a loose interpretation of the parts page from you and  the list of replacements on eBay listing.

Initially the plug almost wanted to not fit. It did look pretty much identical but had an additional small bit of plastic sticking out to prevent installation the way I indented. I decided to still go ahead with installation as it didn't seem to be a safety feature but a business practice. ;) No modification was required. I managed to push everything together without using too much force.

No check engine light, the ECU shows successful EVAP test after the last reset. I think also better idle and slightly better MPG but might be biased. ;)
