Double Speed Limits

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have just updated to the latest Maps on the Portal facility and have something new on my display.

When driving on a 50mph limit road, the SatNav shows a 50 symbol and a 60 symbol.

Same for Motorways, 60 and 70 are shown.

I have deleted the Maps and re-downloaded but the same shows, very confusing.

Any ideas welcome.

This is how they are now. The lower speed limit is for towing vehicles or LGV’s. It’s been confusing as VAG didn’t announce that they would be doing it but that’s how the update is this time around.

Should only happen where National Speed limit applies as that has different limits for different classes of vehicles.

In a car (if not towing) use the higher one, if towing use lower limit

Giving rise to a new slogan "Skoda - Simply not as clever as they think they are". 🤨

...Or just a little too clever!

As for those limits, the towing rule above applies to any vehicle towing but do you know, a vehicle classed as a van (And this may cover many people carriers, 4x4 type vehicles, crew cabs, etc) Are only allowed to do the lower of the two national speed limits, on a duel carriageway?

They can do the full 70 on a motorway but NOT on a duel carriageway! Strangely bizarre anomaly to speed limits.

So, how many drivers out there are possibly driving at 70 on a motorway, happily obeying the limit and then get on to a duel carriageway, flow nicely at 70 still, smug in the knowledge that the flashing blue lights in the rear view mirror are for "Someone else", only to find it is them that is being asked to pull over and end up with a nice little fine and points on their lovely, clean licence? I see vans all the time, going over the 60MPH limit imposed on them and wonder if they even know!

@mrgf - Well, there but for the grace of God...

Not helped any by the fact that the speedo on the hired minibus actually under-read!

What's most frustrating is that there is an option buried in the sat nav settings related to towing, which you would like to think was involved in selecting which limit it shows you but seemingly not. A missed opportunity.

And that why I haven't updated mine as it would irritate me no end.
