I have just bought a set of second hand alloys for my Skoda Fabia 2002 1.4. They are 16 inch alloys with 205/45/16 tyres. The alloys come from a SEAT LEON.

I fitted them to the car and on the first test drive I noticed a loud grinding and snatching sound from the front on braking, which becomes mainly presents itself when slowing to a stop.

The front brake discs have a deep lip to them. There is plenty of material on the front pads.

After a further test drive it was noted that the front nearside disc felt much warmer than the offside suggesting some sort of binding problem with the caliper maybe?

Any ideas if the fitment of the wheels has caused some damage to my braking system. Does fitting alloys to a car which never came with them from factory spec cause damage to the steering and suspicion set up/geometry, and would cause the symptoms I am describing. Seems more than a coincidence that my front brakes developed the problem so quickly.

I have changed the wheels and tyres back to the original, but the problem persists.

I'd appreciate any advice!

"ABS" warning light is now constantly on!

Would say it’s a coincidence about the caliper sticking. I presume the wheel is also getting very hot compared to the others. Disks get hot anyway under normal braking. Have the brakes seen to if you are not able to strip yourself.

I think you may have bolted the new wheel back on and cocked the disc slightly on the face of the hub causing the disc to run out, jack it up, give it a spin and see if it wobbles.

Make sure you tighten the wheel bolts evenly and in sequence.

Dust shield on the rear been knocked and rubbing on the disk?

My wifes sdi had this problem after she drove over a tree branch that fell in front of her last year in the heavy wind.

It would only do it at certain alow speeds.

You might have knocked this whilst swapping wheels?

So has the sdi,

I ment the dust shield on the back of hub on the fronts as this is where it was mentioned that the grinding sound has been coming from
