Problems with creaking sound from left side mirror

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a RS model 2014.

I have a creaking sound when i lock or unlock the car and the side mirror automatically opens.

It sounds a bit like a bad cog and chain for about 2 seconds.

Is there an easy fix for this problem?

Is this a common problem?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this is a common problem but I have it too on the (for the UK) driver's side on a November 2017 1.5 TSi DSG. Still got a few years on the warranty yet do not too worried.

Silicon grease spray at the start and end of winter.

That reminds me my drivers side mirror does not fully fold in., 18 plate.

My 66 plate Octavia also has creaky noisy mirrors.  Has been like that since buying the car.  Last year I decided to strip the mirrors down to fit led puddle light bulbs and also fit the dynamic mirror side repeaters.  While doing this I decided to lubricate everything I could see to cure the creaking noise.  Put it all back together and they still creaked !  So I've just put up with it since.

There are more threads with the same issue. Solved mine with Vaseline from pharmacy, natural grease for body originating from oil. It is very cheap, but lasts much longer then silicone sprays.

The part which seems to be in trouble is outer rubbing point which you can actually see when the mirror is folded. Put a little of grease, make a few unfolds and folds, and when it is finally unfolded, remove extra grease. Lasts quite long, as Vaseline isn't dissolving in water.
