DTUK questions for those who use them!

Featured Replies

So I'm thinking of getting a tuning box for my 2019 Tdi VRs estate dsg but I have a few questions...

1) buying second hand of eBay, any CRD3+ box for the 184 engine will fit? So like one which came of a golf will work fine?

2) does it matter if it's come of a DSG or manual car?

3) who do you insure with and what did they charge you for fitting them?

4) is the Bluetooth app really worth it?

cheers

You dont have warranty if you buy second hand, but of course you may already know that. If you can visit DTUK themselves so they test new box on your car, would be the best solution.

In theory yes, but I'd get that double checked first.

No, because the CRD3 just touching the engine side of things.

Insurance..........every insurance company take their own view on these kind of things. Best check with who you're with first before buying it and see what the increase would be.

It's a 5 minute job to fit it yourself. There's a ton of videos showing you how to do it.

I assume the one you're looking at is a bluetooth enabled one? Not all of them are. Mine doesn't have the bluetooth app, but I can see how it would be of benefit. It means when you wish to adjust any of the settings, you don't have to lift the bonnet.

Hope that helps

1) yes as long as its the GTD engine from the MK7 cuna or cupa

2) nope

3) mine is an extra £50 insurance, no charge as its a 5 min job fitting it yourself.

4) yes definitely. you can quickly switch maps on the fly and keep it switched off until oil temps are high enough.

Just phone DTUK & ask them, tell them the truth about buying a 2nd hand box & they'll answer you truthfully. They're a decent bunch of guys, they ain't gonna fib to you just to sell you a box.

You'll get loads of different answers from a forum & not all a them will be correct, I'm on my 5th DTUK product & the little I do know is that apply's in this case, is a DSG map produces more torque than a manual map.

The manual clutch isn't rated to the same amount of torque as the DSG hence, not immediately but eventually, you'll fry a manual clutch with a DSG map as it produces more torque. As torque is a diesels only method of throwing the car down the road, it can produce TOO much for the manual clutch.

This is the best outcome of fitting an unsuitable box, the other outcomes produce maxi dots full of critical errors.

The bluetooth connection in addition to allowing you to be lazy, allows you to download new maps as they become available.

3 questions ONLY you can answer

How much is your car worth ?

How much are you saving buying a 2nd hand box  ?

Does the saving seem worth the risk ?

You get a better warranty off Ebay than  you do from dtuk

Ebayy  always favours the buyer.

Item not as described

Item not working

Parts missing

Some buyers even  claim  item never arrived.

Take your pick from any off that list

You'll always get a  refund even if the seller refuses

Once bitten twice shy. Would never sell anything  on  Ebayy
