Brake disc wear, good or bad?

Featured Replies

I was cleaning up the wheels today and noticed odd brake disc wear.  Does this look like anything to worry about? For comparison the first is of the front(changed order when posted)

No I didn't forget the light inside the rim! :)tmp-cam-339037482.thumb.jpg.8a4bc1b8eb17af14df5498cd8a264920.jpg

Great. I have just never seen radial stripes wearing on discs before.

Thanks

It’s just a mark left where the edge of the brake pad has been at some point.

Those discs are A1 perfect.

Totally agree  with the guys - the disks are in good visual shape.

Radial marks are where the pad has made contact for longer time - i.e. on parking brake.

Thanks for all the positive feedback.  Now that I think about it it makes sense being that the hand braked is applied there... Some just seemed unusually deep.   I also wondered about the front (I see no problem) but I really hear them grind through the front at low speed.   This car just has really no sound insulation. ... But I has grown on me, but I wonder if I might have been better off in the long run with a bigger motor:)

Can I add a question here please?

My car usually stands with the near side facing south, the direction most of our weather comes from.  Driving away after a couple of days standing in the rain, the brakes are always noisy as the surface rust on the disks is rubbed off by the pads.  I always wonder if this is wearing the pads and disks unduly on one side.  I want to keep the car long-time.  Should I be worried?

Thank you

Stewart

It might possibly increase wear on the brake pads but I would have thought it will be very slight, light surface rust such as you get on a brake disc is no more than a growth the first time you brake you remove that fresh growth.
