GPS WNRO?

Featured Replies

I have an old TomTom Go 520 of which updates are no longer available............Fair enough

Just today received an email with a 'one time update' regarding the GPS Week Number Rollover.

I'm happy it's all legit, just not sure it's necessarily necessary?

Anyone know if it is?...........I haven't used it for a good while (not this year) and not really sure if a new one is necessary yet for me.

I fear the possibility that if i connect for the update they (TomTom) may render the unit useless somehow as they have been trying to get me to purchase a new unit for ages now, and years ago, upon an update, I'm sure they removed my camera alerts unbeknown to me for a while.

Ta.

I've had the same emails for a few devices that I no longer use. The update isn't biggie and will get them sorted later.

That didn't occur to me when I updated my One a few weeks back; and it still works the same as ever afterwards.

IIRC, Speed Cameras were updated with scratch cards for that generation and RTTI was about £47 via a phone call.

@Tilt - Would it bother you if your TomTom showed a date in, say, 2003 rather than the correct date for today? If not, then you certainly don't need a GPS week number update.

@KenONeill Not looked into it too much yet myself Ken, as only received the email today. but are you sure that is all it is???

think there is more to it than that, like the unit actually working properly. I could be wrong though.

I will take it out and test it next time i think..............Cheers Anyway

@Tilt - Well, GPS location is calculated on delta T of transmissions from a number of satellites, which is basically why you get better position and speed data when receiving signals from large numbers of satellites, and indeed why GPS basically doesn't work in the (Ant)Arctic regions.

BTW this will be the second time that the GPS week number has rolled over - and the world didn't come to an end the first time :notme:

Ah...........just checked anyway...........It seems my unit is not working properly anyway so i will need to do the update and try it.

If i click (touch) on a button it is activating the one next to it, to the right. So for one I cannot change the clock hours...

Left hand side buttons not working at all, so cannot set route. I will do the update.......

Well bugger me............Done the update, but it is still not activating the button that i touch. It is still activating the one to the right. Anyone know a solution to remedy??? Not sure if I can try a reset???

Never had that before and it is usually hung on the wall in the kitchen if not in the car in use (well looked after)...........Baffled

Looks like i may have to get a new nav then anyway or look into one for the phone.

I seem to recall a touchscreen setup somewhere.
