I've got 20gb of data + roaming should I need it, so not worried in the slightest about using data as it comes off my allowance.

I've upgraded my old W10 Lumia, but still keep the Lumia as  a sat nav using here maps . Not easier and faster on home Wifi to update etc than android. So as a result I have a limited data resource on the PAYG SIM I've put in phone to compare my contract phone network with Vodafone. i'd be off to Vodafone if they still did the basics contract SIM only deal .

I have a basic current contract with Vodafone that gives me 20gb data, ultd texts and calls, with roaming for ~£12.65 pcm.

You can try getting special deals online.

Don't really have that much need for stacks of data. Only reason I liked them was that phone signal in house was good, whereas companies relying on EE have signal that drops off into kitchen . We use our mobiles in place of house phone with little or no data use outside range of home Wifi. I did like the look of the £6 a month contract, but that's been dropped. Our price range is based on average spend on PAYG of £5 per month. I notice that roaming is now the newthing, but since I hardly ever roam more than 50 miles from home, it's not a consideration to me.

Thanks anyway.

I use smarty. Its owned by 3 and for £7.50 a month you get unlimited calls/texts and 2gb data. Any data you don't use is discounted off next month at a rate of £1.25/GB. Anything over 2gb and you automatically get another GB @£1.25/GB. The remaining of that is then discounted as above.

Its basic but amazing value and you need to have good 3 signal.

Marky- after months of  signal problems on plusnet mobile ( based on EE network) I decided to move to Smarty, and then referred Swimbo to them. Result- we get a month each of service, and as we never use data( plenty of unlimited home data on wifi ) ,we wil get a refund each month. Signal is still not brilliant, but at price, it's a better deal than with Plusnet.

At home/in house, 3 signal is the same as EE( as used by plusnet), possibly a bit better. But on smarty, I'm paying a lot less. But I noticed a while ago that EE signal was failing in house and EE /plusnet failed to sort out the problem, so I voted with my wallet. Add to that an above inflation price increase on Plusnet mobile and I felt that the Plusnet motto of "we'll do you proud" ,should be rephrased as "we'll do you,  ( and ) proud (of how we do it).
