Replaced V68 temperature flap motor, but still the car shows an error

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

on my Škoda Octavia Combi 1.8T 4x4 MY2003 i got a code for a faulty V68 motor (error code 01271), I replaced it, but the climatronic still doesn't work right. I have done a basic setting and an output test and the V68 moves freely without a problem, the wiring doesn't seem to be damaged/faulty, but when I start the car and/or climatronic, it is stuck on "hot" setting (the flap is in position to blow hot air through the vents) and the original error code is still present, marked as active and cannot be erased... but when I do the output test again, V68 moves without a problem...

Did anyone have the same issue and how did you solve it? I'm out of ideas...

Thank you in advance for help 🙂

I've been living with the problem for ages but always thoughtit was due to the flap not being able to move through its full range of motion or the potentiometer giving incorrect readings, i would pnly change the motor if it was broken and not moving the flap.

When you do the basic setting you should be able to view the potentiometer readings through measuring blocks or something, I know I have done it before, something about expected and measured values, doing this I can see that mine is sticking and not moving as far as its commanded to.

How difficult was it to change the motor and was the potentiometer accessible?

I will try to go again through basic settings, maybe it will help... measuring blocks are correct when blowing hot, but incorrect when blowing cold (instead of value 100+ it shows less than 30)...

To change the motor you need to completely dissasemble the whole lower dash, centre console, armrest,... basically only the steering wheel, dials and upper dashboard stays in place...

It is also easier, if you remove the front seats first ;)

Then you need to remove footwell heating duct and only then you have a decent access to unbolt the 3 6mm hex screws, that are holding the motor in place...

Needless to say, it took me a few hours to get it done...

I have had all of that out recently at different times doing various jobs so not to daunting, there wont be too many unknowns, maybe its time for me to bite the bullet to stop the clicking and get rid of the recurrent fault code.

yours sounds like it is either being stopped from moving or the potentiometer is faulty.

Maybe you can strip enough away to give the flap a helping hand whilst running flapaerobics?

@martin94  @J.R. - Have you tried a 10 minute course of "flapperobics"?

@KenONeill by "flapperobics" you mean performing basic setting or something else? On the other hand, it is also possible that I'm doing somethink wrong... with OBDeleven I go to module 08 (Climatronic) and then under "Basic setting" I go to channel 004, is this the correct procedure? Because in the workshop manual there is only instruction for performing that with VAG 1552 diagnostic tool 🤔

Ah, sorry, flapperobics doesn't use software. It's as crude as pressing all the buttons in a semi-random order for 10 minutes, so that everything exercises.

I just use the standard self test procedure where you press and hold down two buttons together and it then cycles all the flaps etc, done it loads of times but has not helped, I still have the clicking all the time if its not drowned out by other noises, functionally the system works OK, its only a small part of the flap range that is blocked or where the potentiometer does not read.

That is exactly the same in my car, but without the clicking, because the motor is "stuck" on hot air blow position, but when performing basic setting and doing output test, it works both ways... maybe it is the problem with the part itself (it is Febi Bilstein one)...

On the plus note, I have discovered that it is possible to remove the motor without dissasembling the interior, all you need is to remove the glovebox and it is also very good to have a 6mm rachet wrench and small fingers ;)

Mines a MK2 but it sounds similar, I just happen to have the glovebox out at the moment to replace the can bus gateway module and can see several heater flap motors all quite accessible, this part of the car is very well designed, heater blower removal is a piece of p*ss.

Once I have recoded the new module with VCDS I will cycle the actuator to see which one it is or I will probably be able to see it clicking away, maybe with some encouragement, some WD40 and a helping hand it might be persuaded to behave.

Just came in for a coffee break to avoid the sun (35°c here) and its a coincidence that you should have posted now!

Well, we all love good timing :D at us is also above 30 degrees and till the last week we were still in coats at as low as 8 degrees in the morning 🤔

To conclude this topic: today I've got a used genuine V68 motor, which was guaranteed to work flawlessly, I have installed it in my car, performed basic setting with OBDeleven like before and behold: all is well and no more errors 🤨

so to recap: the AC servo motors must be genuine to ensure that it all works without a problem or at least don't buy aftermarket motors from Febi Bilstein (which is my first negative experince with this brand after an enormous quantity of replaced parts without an issue...) ;)
