1st Week with the Karoq

Featured Replies

I've now had my car for a whole week since I picked it up from the dealership so I thought I'd post my first impressions of ownership.

I've driven the car more than 300 miles and tomorrow will be the first time I fill it up with fuel.

Things I like: Standard in the Edition model:

  • The infotainment screen is super clear, large and easy to read and the sat nav works very well but can nag a tad if I choose my regular rat run to work (70 mile round trip commute)
  • The luggage cover that easily clips to the tail gate to keep it out of the way when loading.
  • The varioflex seating in the rear that I missed since I sold the Yeti. Fold, tilt , remove completely.
  • The comfortable electric driving seat with the best lumbar support that I've had in a car.
  • Keyless entry
  • Lower door light that spell Skoda
  • No rattles
  • Removable boot light
  • Sliding front arm rest for bottle holders
  • 3 x 12V power sockets, front, rear and in the boot.
  • Auto opening of the side windows and tilt sun roof (same as my old Yeti)
  • The sun roof, so much extra cabin light, i missed this from my Yeti.
  • Phone connects just fine. without issue
  • Blind spot notification on mirrors
  • Auto electric hand brake (more later)
  • Auto dimming mirrors.

Things I like: options I added:

  • I love the velvet red colour, I have yet to see another one in the area on the road, I chose it after seeing a Kodiaq VRS in the colour in the dealership when I placed my order.
  • Heated windscreen, only used once but was very good. I missed this from my Ford car ownership.
  • The tow bar deployment, it swings down and out from behind the bumper and is nudged into place by hand and locks into place. However I guess after towing you will get covered in tow ball grease putting it back. But  great that you can deploy it only when you need it though hence a +
  • The mud flaps are doing a reasonable job.
  • Adaptive cruise control is brilliant but beware of drivers cutting in too soon  on the motorway as the car will apply the brakes and not just lift off the throttle that can be a shock at first. Some cheeses will always pull in to wipe the front bumper so be aware.
  • Virtual pedal for tail gate, OK if you are used to the car otherwise you not so good if you don't mild looking like a drunken stalk with a stubbed toe trying to open the thing with arms full of boxes. Worth it in my opinion.

Added options yet to be fully evaluated:

  • Canton sound system, initial evaluation is very positive but I've had the sound muted to listen for creaks and rattles etc this week while driving.
  • Tow bar, I've yet to tow anything with the car and check the electrics

Things that could be better:

  • More USB sockets, why only one in the front in 2019?
  • Glove box can store.... a glove.. but can chill it.
  • No chilled jumbo armrest storage box, I had this in my Yeti back in 2012 and found it very useful
  • Electric hand brake, a solution to a problem that does not exist. But auto works very well with the DSG.

I will update if needed as time passes, so far it's brilliant.

As long as the Glove box can take 10 Fingers of Fudge,  (& there is under seat storage for the owners manual.)

or room for 5 Twix Bars, maybe a few Kit-Kats if you want to 'Take a Break' take a few Kit Kats.

Please do not grease the tow ball if you are towing a caravan/trailer fitted with an Al-Ko stabiliser - it will render it totally useless. The tow ball must be used dry, with the paint cleaned off.

You can fit a tow ball cover although after a long period you will get some surface rust that should also be cleaned off before use (easy to do).

Thank you johnD5314, I know little about modern tow bars, a previous car now possibly gone from its mortal coil had the old tow bar with twin electrics was used a little. I've not had a tow bar since 2011 but could have really used one from time to time over the years so this time it was added. Thanks again.
