Engines

Featured Replies

Recently I've read a bit about the 1.4Tsi engines and only seen good reviews. Loved my A4 2.0Tfsi engine. (and the car, Lol)

If there are bad reviews please link for me to read if you like.

I'm considering a swap as never really wanted diesel (ever) but needed a van at one point and then was travelling over the midlands and a little further so diesel was the sensible option at the time, hence the 1.9pd. Have seen 70+mpg on a number of occasions.

Seems most folk are saying the 1.4 has plenty of poke whilst being lovely and smooth and has reasonable fuel economy even in a car Octavia sized.

Correct me if I am wrong but i'm led to believe the 1.4 was replaced with the 1.5???

Now, from my limited research the 1.5 seems to have quite a few issues, or possibly one or two issues but affecting a lot of these engines?????? is this correct?

Question..........If this is correct or / and if the 1.4 is so reliable etc, why the hell would they replace it at all???

Same reason as usual, keeping up with the latest beaurocratic decisions on emissions, NOx and particulates especially.

Not wrong there. So much based on politics rather than science and research.

Hmmm........interesting.......I thought the science had resulted in the legislation in order to protect the Government from litigation over health implications of ignoring the scientific advice.

Having now done 16,000 miles in a manual Karoq 1.5TSi and previously 16,000 miles in a manual Superb 1.4TSi (both 148bhp/250nm and ACT equipped) and similar weight around at 1,320kg I woulsd recommend the 1.4TSi all day long. The Superb was more economical than the Karoq (I know aerodynamics favour the more slippy Superb over the SUV shaped Karoq) regularly seeing over 700 miles from the 66 litre tank whereas the Karoq tends to average about 470 miles from 50 litres. The 1.5TSi can be very temperamental when the ambient temperature is cold although you can drive round the issue. I would imagine the 1.4TSi engine in the Octavia bodyshell would be perfect as long as you get the ACT version with 148bhp.

Partly. Long time exposure to particulate matter such as soot has been researched and found it can be carcinogenic. However your body has some defence when it comes to this. Nasal hairs can trap some plus you can see it so can to some extent avoid it. However now we have particulate filters (both diesel and gasoline) that break down matter that small (into nanograms) now they are capable of getting directly into the lungs and straight into the bloodstream. As yet no one knows what they all are let alone what the long term effect might be.
