Superb Estate 4x4 Gearbox Wanted - Will Any Other VAG Variants Fit?

Recommended Posts

Hello,
It's looking like my gearbox is toast and I'm being told that a recon is not possible!
Are there any experts here who would know whether I will need to find someone breaking a Superb 4x4, or are there other VAG parts that might fit please?
Also, it looks from the Service Book as if my Gearbox is a 3T539Y.
Any help very welcome!
Thanks
Nobby

Why is a recon or repair not possible? When I worked for an Official Porsche Centre years ago, I rebuilt many 911 Turbo and Carrera 4 boxes, and plenty diff bearing replacements on the 968 box when they had a supplier issue.

Did they say it was due to cost or the damage to the casing caused by the damage inside? As long as the housing is sound, (which is also replaceable) should be able to get spare parts to repair it. Sometimes even casings can be repaired with specialised welding.

Simplest would be to source one from breakers but get a money back warranty.

TPS price may be a bit too steep, good luck!

Think the Passat would use the same 6-speed manual gearbox 02Q (MQ 350-6A), but would need some research for 2010, and would need to have been fitted with the same engine.

Yes my question too!

I was told that there was too much damage as all of the oil had gone (not sure why) and 'it couldn't be repaired' - Like you I'm assuming too expensive to repair, rather than not repairable...

There are very few Superb 4x4 gearboxes around with breakers, so I'm looking into other VAG options and not giving up on the idea of repairing it just yet!

Manual or DSG?

Google 'used car parts uk'. There are numerous sites which will contact breakers for a specific part price at no cost to you. Some breakers also advertise on eBay.

Manual - yes I mentioned in first post I was looking into breakers and agree that google before posting is a good thing. Do you know any good VAG gearbox specialists as I couldn't find the post superbdreams mentioned?

Found and spoke to https://www.vagbolton.com/ who were really helpful and knowledgeable, but too far away from me in Bolton.

I'm still no further forwards as the gearbox recon guy has gone on holiday with my gearbox in his workshop ....

Hopefully all sorted now with help here and on another Skoda forum.

Websites for breakers who email you prices were a waste of time for me, with £750 the minimum price and up to £900.

Breakers on Ebay most seem to give a warranty and a few more gearboxes on there £600-800 and with a bit of searching around and contacting breakers direct and asking £300-400 seems about the going rate (and the gearbox recon guy said £300-400) but depends on the actual code and how many options you have for the mileage and price.

Hoping I will now get some trouble free motoring! 😊
