Featured Replies

Wanted to order a new Octavia 2.0TSi DSG yesterday but told unless I can find a car to my spec or want a 4x4 I will have to wait for 10 weeks until the Mk IV is available.

Me? Never! :giggle:

That 10 weeks figure sounds about right given its expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt international motor show in September, with production expected to begin shortly after.

Sorry but the rest of June, then July , August and into September is more than 10 weeks before you get into having one into the UK.

If they can not say when the Order Books open then Skoda UK Customer Services are just as useless as usual.

Just double checked the date of the show and it's mid to late Sept, so yes you are correct, quite a bit more than the 10 weeks

This is odd unless the L&K is an exception. I was told on Tuesday that Sportline and vRS models were factory order and would come this year as MK 3 builds.

first thing i'd do, is remove that SKODA writing on the back

looks a bit odd  imo

Doesn’t the factory normally have a 3 week summer break during July, and any retooling would take place then.

I would expect production to start in August, and could be slow ramp up initially to check for quality (even if they are not released to Dealers until few weeks later).

Guessing late October or November before they hit the road in UK (assuming a no deal Brexit doesn’t happen and UK allocation gets postponed)

What I don't understand is the UK doesn't have to impose a tariff on imports because we have left the EU - but it probably will. This, I suppose, is when the true negotiations will start.

No, and there is no real reason why they would. Tariff's are usually imposed for a couple o f reasons:

1. Punishment. I don't think the UK is in such a petty mood that it would "punish" the EU by slapping tariff's on incoming vehicles.

2. Protect Home Interests. With no UK car industry, there are no home interests to protect. Slapping 5% or 10% tariffs on vehicles isn't going to be "protecting" the jobs of thousands of workers.

3. Pure profit. This is the only real reason a tariff might be slapped on, however post brexit is going to be a time of negotiation, and the government isn't going to want to potentially "annoy" other countries by slapping on tariff's for the hell of it.

Not sure how i feel about the new skoda design, however i am happy its gone back to a full light unit as apposed to that darn bumper that made it look like it was wearing glasses.

It would be nice to see a few new colours as well.

The overall design makes it look like a tad smaller superb , whereas before there were clear differences. I suppose time will tell. I did however see that the new Golf GTI TCR engine has 290bhp standard so it will be interesting to see if Skoda release a VRS with this engine in also. It may even tempt me back to a petrol a few years down the line.

Should be some great deals on 2nd hand or nearly new mk IIIs :)

Yes, I agree it does look a bit unnecessary. Looks like what you'd expect to find on the tail gate of a pick up truck.  Makes you wonder how it passed design planning.

Design!!!!  Nah! Skoda ain't designed just a good chunky family car. I love it and wouldn't change it for the world. Will buy a new one though when they let me.

Seems to be the way some cars are going. Volvo have had it for a long time so hardly new and I was behind a new Ford Focus this morning which has FOCUS spelt out across the back. IMO better suited to lighter coloured cars as it doesn't stand out as much as against the likes of a black car. Surely there will be unofficial matt black versions available in a few months.

Really happy I have my order in for a 2019 Octavia Soleil.

Not impressed by the look of this in comparison.

I like the split headlights in the Mk3 FL, I'm not as crazy about the 'futuristic' look here.

The Skoda lettering on the back really does look crumby.

I've read somewhere that big names across the back of the car is to help with identity in new markets where the logo isn't ubiquitous... I.e. China. Then it's easier to have a common worldwide design especially when there's no local manufacturing I guess.

Are you sticking with the lawnmower engine option in the new :emoticon-0157-sun: model?

Perhaps they are just copying J-A-G-U-A-R and V-O-L-V-O who have already joined the club and got the T shirt.

I really hope the estate back end doesn't end up looking like that! The hatch back end looks nice but those photos make the estate rear look like the mk5 golf estate which I really didnt like either.

Must be the DSG model because they are bragging about the noise it makes on rapid upshifts, Test Fahrt.🚽
