Dealer won't supply number plates with blue EU flag

Featured Replies

We're about to collect our new Kodiaq next week and are quite excited.

Today the dealer has told us that they don't supply number plates with the blue EU/GB flag any more.

We requested these as we do a lot of driving on the continent and we don't want to have to resort to stickers and the like.

Has anybody experienced something similar?

Sounds very Brexity to me.

@ErwinP Welcome.

Did you get that in Writing from the Dealership and actual Dealer Principal or told by a salesperson?

You can get made up and supply the registration plate you want and tell them to not charge the price of making up plates on the OTR cost.

I know about the stickers, I have them on my current car, but they do weather over time. Also, when using those stickers, they number isn't in the centre of that plate any more. I realise that sounds very pernickety but I just assumed when getting a new car this wouldn't be a problem. I see plenty of new cars with the 'EU' plates.

We might be soon needing a seperate GB sticker anyway!

It was the salesperson, so I should probably confirm this with dealer management.

I talked to Skoda UK and they were very surprised, but also pointed out that this was at the dealer's discretion.

They have probably just reordered a stock of number plate materials or are at the point of doing so.

Would you order stock that you will have to throw away in a few months?

Maybe they chucked away all the EU ones in March ow whenever the last exit date was supposed to be, here in France they struck me off the electoral role and I was refused entry to vote in the EU elections.

I got a new car this week and had previously asked the dealer about supplying it with GB plates. He said they didn't normally supply them but as I'd asked, he would ensure they were fitted - and they were.

As already mentioned, ask the dealer to subtract the cost of their number plates off the price of the car, and supply your own for them to fit...

...and when I did the deal on my MY18 vRS, they wouldn't do me a set of non-GB plates!

In 4 months time you won't be allowed to use the EU flag and identifier anyway, so pointless buying them now. Just get standard ones and a GB sticker until the Westminster Fairies have decded when we packup and leave. Once that's done then EU identifiers will all need to be removed anyway.

'Simples'  you can take that bit of tape off the headlights which is not needed and stick it over the identifier on the registration plate if someone is really policing registration plates on Continental Europe.
