Wheel kicking is fun, you learnt the had way that it can be dangerous (with a 350Z on order :P )

But despite making my mind up on the MR2 I dont see my wheel kicking coming to any immediate end

Its strange actually, I've still got the Astra VXR salesman hounding me to go for a drive yet I cant be bothered now.

What is it with convertibles that suddenly they're gay? The British car industry is littered with iconic roadsters, and suddenly we've decided they're only for hairdressers. Why does it have to have 200 bhp to be fun? Bah

Walkie - you just get the one you like best - they're only jealous! :D

If people want to judge a car by its image and bhp alone then they are missing out on some cracking cars imo and the jokes on them.

As for the Porsche Boxster which has been mentioned in this thread, if I was a little older (for insurance purposes) then it would of been strong consideration, but as it is, in the short longrun (if that mkes sence) its a little too dear.

Well said Walkie.

Being a convertible, and assuming you left the roof down, you can get in without needing keys too ;)

Here's a nice hairdresser's car :) taken from here

If people want to judge a car by its image

Lets be honest the Furby isn't exactly masculine is it

Or, if you want to get even more hairdresser-ey :P

I once owned a Mazda MX-5. I had it for a year, and think the hood only came down for about 2 weeks in that time. It was a fun car to own, rear wheel drive being the only thing I miss about it now.

It was totally impractical, the boot would only take a set of golf clubs if the driver was removed from the bag! I used to hate driving it around town because it was an attention seeker, and I was not. I remember feeling very vulnerable when a Land Cruiser came up behind me in traffic, left his braking late, and almost drove over me! All I could see in the mirror was his bullbar!

I would not buy a convertible again, and instead am happy to be back in a proper car.... not even a sunroof anymore!

I plan to have the roof down as much as possible. Heated seats do help a lot with that though :D

Couldn't have put it better myself.

(That could have something to do with the fact that I've got

But wont the Octygone's want the money back now you're not taking her away from them?

Good choice Walkie. I work at a Toyota dealers and get to drive loads of them. Easy to coax into oversteer and very controllable too.

Try to get one of the newer ones with the facelift as they seem to be slightly better put together than the early ones. Not much to say on problems really, just make sure it has service history as without regular oil changes they can munch the engines.

If you have any problems or queries mate, give me a PM and I'll try my best to help you out. ;)

I totally agree. Bought one of the first Mk2.5 MX5's in Sept 01, kept it for 2 years and lost

Any news on how the seach is going?

The search is going well, there's a few examples I've got my eye on, just waiting for the sale of mine.

eBay auction is ending soon, so we shall see.

I will keep you all informed ;)

Hi Walkie

Which one you giong after? A hint, lots of sellers have unrealistic expectations and put too high a reserve on the car. Well worth contacting a seller after the auction and making an offer. Mate of mine does this a fair bit with cars on ebay and in the trader where he waits for the ad to run out, leaves it a week then calls to see if car is still there.

Chris

PS Good luck.

If you like the MR2, you want to try an Elise, mate. Nice S1, ten grand. Sorted.

The first person I thought of when I saw it was you mate.

Bit late now perhaps, but have you considered an older Porsche? Might not seem the most obvious because generally people associate a Porshce with rocket-high insurance, but some are quite reasonable. I've been quoted only £300 more than the Fabia on a 944 S2. 911's aren't priced too badly either.

I think I'm right in saying that the majority of insurance quotes are based upon statistical risk assessment, but since Porsches are rarely crashed compared to many sports cars (generally careful owners), they have lower insurance premiums.

Just some food for thought. :)

We have one of those up the road from me in the Chelmsford Nissan dealers. I saw one being driven away from the dealers last week and thought someone must be taking the demonstrator out to fill up the tank or whatever, but no, the demonstrator was still parked there, so someone must have bought one:eek: It gets worse, I have since seen another one out and about.

I jokingly remarked to the missus (during top gear) that secretly, I was going out to pick one of these up instead of the MR2 tomorrow night. Her response "If you come home with one of those I will knife you". Ahhh thats love for you eh?

Chris

PS That Konigsegg looked and sounded fanbloodytastic.
