Favorit thermostat housing leak

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just got the car back together after full cooling system overhaul. All seems ok apart from a small leak from the joint of thermostat housing to housing lid. I thought I had cleaned up the joint well and used new gasket and some hylomar jointing compound either side but still there is a leak from the bottom edge. I used a small inspection mirror to look at the underside and was surprised to see the gold coloured edge of the thermostat between the housing and lid.  I guess this is not meant to be the case ?   Thermostat was a decent quality part that looked to be very similar to the one I removed and I thought it was seated in place properly.

Of course not. Don' overdo with the gasket job. Seat the thermostat properly.

cheers. I thought I had seated it properly but must have slipped at last moment before I nipped the bolts up. bit fiddly with the holding the housing bolt, wiring bracket and ratchet ;)

might have to find a willing assistant next time
