Needed oil after a week!!!!

Featured Replies

My fabia vrs needed oil after only one week of ownership and barely 450miles!!!

That was with generally conservative acceleration / gear changes and cruising speeds of approx 85mph (where the law permits!).

Still, good job I remembered to check the oil. Had a right farce trynig to find some oil in halfords that was the correct spec and not their own brand rubbish. Found a little bottle of castrol stuff in the end luckily!!!

Nearly all pd 130 engines use a little oil to start with after a couple of thousand miles they don't use any more,,,,,or at least very little........all part of the running in process

The PD engine will use oil for the first 10,000 miles, after that it drops to virtually no usage.

Worth getting a 1 litre top up bottle from Skoda (about £5), as the usage rate is not constant. Some weeks it may use nothing, some weeks it may use a lot - and this is not.

yeh, i'd read a little on these forums about them using oil to begin with (esp if they've not been thrashed according to some!).

What's the word on mixing oils (this may be a ridiculously stupid question!)??? Any oil is ok as long as it meets the correct specification right??? Doesn't matter that I used a castrol one rather than a vag branded one???

Did about a hundred miles in the car after filling up and it's working fine so I guess it must all be fine!

Any oil should be fine as long as it meets the VAG spec for the PD engine.

:iagree: You need 501.00 or 501.01 IIRC.

Mine used about a litre in the first 10k miles, and I'm now on 26k miles, and I've probably used about half the second bottle of oil. I anticipate it will always use a little oil, as they are designed to use oil. However, unless you are like me and insist on keeping the level as close to the top as possible, I think you could get away without topping it up after the first service.

Mine gets a reguar "drive like I stole it", so I imagine that could account for an amount of oil loss.

First 10k it used a fair bit of oil, reduced to virtually none as far as I can tell now.

Hybrid turbo caused a little more oil to come out but probably mainly due to the incredibly steep angle we jacked up the rear of the car to get the exhaust off without cutting again (it was late, neighbours to consider, etc).

In reality at least a once-weekly check is a good idea on most cars, officially before every drive but let's face it, that ain't gonna happen

NO ...

You need 505.01 for a Pd units on fixed service intervals (Fabia VRS)

or

506.01 for Pd units with varaible service intervals (NOT Fabia VRS)

cheers for the continuued advice guys. It's still running ok after the castrol (which did conform to the numbered spec listed above and in the manual) so everything looks dandy.

I'll be driving it a fair bit of the next couple of weeks so I'll be sure to keep checking on it!!!
