New citigo

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm  interested in buying a Citigo, but I'm not sure whether to buy a new model, or a 2018 version with less than 4000 miles -7200£. But new models at 8500 are not available to buy at that price for 3 months even though they are in showroom, and have mileage less than 700. Anybody else had this issue, but I can buy one straight away if I buy on finance.

thanks

jenny

Hi jenny, So are you saying the dealership is telling you that you can buy a car immediately if you use their finance, but they won't sell you one if you use your own finance or pay cash? In that case I suggest you go to a different dealership. Try here: http://www.dennishorton.co.uk/skoda/offers/special-offers/

Dealerships are obliged to keep their demonstrator cars for 3 months before they sell them on to avoid the dealerships buying them at a reduced price and selling them on at a discount (this protects the new price of the that the manufacturers lists them at) Some dealers are prepared to bend the rules slightly if their sales figures are low.

Hi Greenstripe, the cars advertised on website with deal, as 2019, one has done 600 miles and registered in March, the other hasn't been registered and 0 miles, price is 8500 for the 600 mile 9000 for the non registered which is slight let higher spec.. On both I could not buy them until mid September. However I could order a brand new car either cash or finance and have within a week and pay list price, about 10k

We seem to be talking about UK sales.Dealers are pushed into  achieveing  certain registration targets,so end up with cars registered they have no buyers for,and use them as demos ,until they can off load them later , to the public. I bought my car outright ,so could argue max discount ,along with my trade -in.If you can afford it ,buy new outright, with low delivery /dealer transfer mileage. If you need to buy on finance, you could wait until September, and leave a deposit in the meantime on the ninegrand non reg car to secure it.

The initial miles on the car are important, less chance of it being thrashed about by salesmen in a hurry getting home-or elsewhere....... as greenstripe says there are other dealers,so shop around, you have the whip-hand,not them.....as production has now stopped there is only existing stock left.

Thank you blackcountryman, I have saved enough to buy outright :-), but from what I have seen, dealers prefer finance options, and i would rather not. I will look around at other dealers.

Have you tried carwow? I got my car brand new for £8600 on PCP with 0% finance.

Sounds like they have registered as demo cars, technically they have to keep them 12 weeks before they can let a demo go. Otherwise Skoda UK will claw back money, meaning they have to pay more for the car etc.

Buy on finance with VWFinancial services and take the incentives I.e free servicing or whatever they are offering at the moment then pay off in full the day you collect the car.

lots of us do this and I always tell them up front that is what I’m doing (it is your right to pay off at anytime) if you pay off the same day, which is a phone call asking to pay off the finance you may get 1 days interest.

I left my last car over a weekend and had 3 days interest to pay which on my car was around £13 but kept the 2 years free servicing pack.

i have done this with my last 5 cars from Skoda & VW, never had a problem yet and kept all incentives :)

Thank you all the responses, really kind of you to reply. With regards to finance, does this apply to the skoda deal they have on, and then you pay it off in 14 days

My wifes dec 31st 2018 reg car was bought by us about a month ago for £8600.

It is the colour edition with spare wheel and dab radio also fitted as extras, and had done 25 miles only.

OK we are the second owner, but it is effectively a new car, although a 68 reg.

There was quite a lot of chhoice in pre-reg cars, a number of which were 19 reg and had only done 10 miles, but we liked the colour edition best.

The best time to buy a car is in the last couple of days of the month. The dealers have monthly sales targets and they are cutting the prices then to shift stock.

We bought it from DM Keith in York, but they had quite a few available over their several branches.

You may well find the price is a lot lower on the forecourt than online. Ours was still £10k+ online when we saw it on the forecourt at £8.6k

It applies to any car finance, you have a legal right to request a settlement figure at any time, nothing to do with 14 days...the dealership often tell you lies as they do not really want you to pay it off, as they loose the finance companies kick back.

You contact VWFS immediately after picking the car up and request the resettlement figure, they will send you written confirmation of the figure including any daily interest accrued until the moment you requested to pay it off.

They then suspend all interest and send you a letter giving you the bank details and instructions on how to pay by bank transfer, if you pay it off in full in the time allowed (it’s xx days) they then send you another letter to confirm they have no further interest in the vehicle and that it is free of finance.....bingo you have your car, with any finance incentives you were given at the time of buying and they have their money...simples.

As said, I have done it on so many cars along with many others on here and had no issues whatsoever  :)

I believe that the 14 days mentioned by the dealer is the 'cooling off period' for the finance which most consumer credit agreements have. That would be cancelling the finance as opposed to taking it out and then paying it off in full. My mother took the finance out on Fabia a good few years ago and paid it off in order to get free servicing -the dealer even advised her to do this when she was buying the car.

I was walking past a VW dealer in Macclesfield yesterday and they had a whole bunch of !UP cars pre-reg on 19-plate at £8.8K, so unless you are after a Citigo specifically, it may be worth looking at a VW? Sorry I didn't check what spec of !UP they were, but there was plenty of choice. The dealer in Macclesfield is an Inchcape dealership.

@Jenny001, probably an obvious question but have you test driven one yet and are you looking at the manual or auto?

I made an assumption that you know that the VW !UP is the same car as the Skoda Citigo (and also SEAT Mii), but you may not. That was why I suggested looking at the !UP, it may be better value than the Citigo you are looking at with these offers.

It's Up! :)
