  • I bought mine via 'Buy A New Car Online' and was very happy with the price and the experience.

  • oh dear, that's a bit of a shock to say the least. I checked the company out and saw that they had been in business for around 15 years, with many good reviews over a long period of time. From what I

I was almost right then!

My broker kindly sent me a copy of a Skoda internal bulletin entitled "Skoda my20 summary of changes."

It states in the Octavia section that the 245 manual is discontinued...but you can still get the 245dsg,which is what will be in my car,a week 32,my20 build.

it seems that brokers can know more than dealers!

The fact is the official 2020 Octavia is still the MK 3 and still being built to order. Albeit with engine versions dropped. I would expect that isn’t exclusive to Octavia or Skoda either.

From 1st September all vehicles have to meet the wltp NOX limits with a 2.1 allowance dropping to 1.5 a year later so much tougher times to come. However you have to remember the current nox limit was set in 2014! And as proved later with dieselgate they conned their way through it. Diesels especially still throwing out more than double the nox limit of 5 years ago. It’s obviously proving difficult for them and not worth the effort trying to get the diesel autos through and some petrol autos.

Can you print that bulletin please, for all to see? It was read to me but difficult to remember it all. He didn’t say the auto 245 was available and all the others dropped were autos. So seems very strange to keep the dirtier and possibly less popular auto. Model year 2020 could only be ordered from June onwards. When did you order yours?

You are right on the emissions stuff.

But I think the whole MY20 stuff is probably far simpler. They are running down the stock of various options on engines and gearboxes, so as soon as nowt left on the shelf that's it finished.

Bit of that but after 1st September they cannot sell them so would be scrap.

The unavailability of various options is entirely related to the discontinuation of the Mk3 and imminent production start of the Mk4.

It's nothing to do with WLTP and it'll never make sense why they're dropping certain engine / gearbox / spec combos from that perspective as that's not what's driving it.

Or another way, the Octavias and all other cars sold after 1st September have to have the wltp nox (2.1)approval and the ones dropped either were too difficult to modify or deemed not worth it.

This was really to correct the myth that the 2020 Octavia is the MK4 as stated by many. It is NOT and I cancelled my order because of that. Rather keep my pfl 230 than have either of the current ones.

Seen a picture of the 2020 SEL in red, looks naff with the natty black spoiler. Iffy front and back now.

I'd say it's infinitely more likely that said engine / box combos are simply being diverted to Mk4 production allocations, so they're confident they'll be able to meet initial demand of popular combinations. They'll be managing stock levels and if they're 'low' on 190 TSI DSGs for example, they'll have decided to stop allocating them into the Mk3 chassis

The recently discontinued models are as follows;

1.0TSI 115 DSG All trims

1.6TDI 115 DSG All trims

All L&K trim (2.0TSI 190 DSG, 2.0TDI 150 DSG)

All Scout trim (2.0TDI 150 DSG)

vRS 2.0TSI 245 6G Man

vRS 2.0TDI 184 DSG (not including 4x4)

vRS Challenge 2.0TSI 245 6G Man

(A big reason why it's a lot of DSG discontinuations is that their manual equivalents were already discontinued, the L&K and Scout for example, were only available DSG recently)

I'm not sure what myth you're referring to though, i've not seen anyone claim that that MY20 cars are Mk4s. The MY20 production period starts before the Mk4 is even launched and i've not seen anyone saying any differently. The Mk4 is expected to be around by and in 2020 but that's not the same thing, as MY isn't aligned to calendar years.

VW finance offered me both versions of the 2020 build VRS manuals yesterday. Then I heard that bulletin at the dealers today. The web site configurator  tells you the car will be a 2020 build and check with dealers for more info.  God knows what is going on. But if you get a VRS 245 after 1st September it has to meet and more importantly be approved to latest NOX levels.

Ok ok. They are still building MK3 and not selling unregistered stock  🥵

👍

It’s also everything to do with wltp. They wouldn’t willingly lose thousands of sales otherwise. If not for new nox criteria they would still be producing most of those versions, absolutely without doubt.

Another point worth knowing. From 1st September all remaining NEDC approved cars under special derogation and  unsold can never be registered, their time is up. Not sure if Skoda have any left. But in the case of a few greedy Ford dealers hanging onto RS focus asking £5k over list  price, their fingers are about to get burned. Ha ha.

Just go straight to a dealer who is happy to offer good discounts. Could get 27.5% off base spec cars last month during the June promotion.

Wow, that is a lot of info, i DID have the idea of getting a lot of options on the new car, the kind of stuff which routinely would be on a car from order (Canton, Pan Roof, front and back elec windows, winter pack, upgraded suspension etc) pretty much most of the options list. I may have to re-think this as i do want a manual and of course do now want a diesel. The times ahead for auto high (ish) powered petrol/diesel cars seems to be grim.

All of VW-group are moving away from CO2-efficient diesels to hybrid/electric powertrain. Thus your VRS in future may have a 1.x petrol-turbo with electric assist for performance and/or low-load driving, like all the other big manufacturers have done. Its called progress 😎

When I was shopping around I was told the dealer stock cars tend to be either standard spec or tarted-up like christmas trees, with not much in-between. But nobody is buying diesels so the values of those has plummeted - are you sure you want one? Are you doing high mileage?

Its grim for Petrol, diesel and anything in-between other than pure electric we are going to get hammered. Enjoy it whilst it lasts is my motto!

Not sure on that, they'll either sell them if they think they can get a good price. If not they'll just register them to themselves.

A lot of information,  sifting what is correct is quite hard. I have ordered on or around 1st week of June 19 an Octavia 245 vRS Challenge DSG with a few extras virtual cockpit reversing camera and heated windscreen am I going to get it? I have been told it will by as ordered but the MY20 not MY19 model. I hope this is correct and I do t get a call in a few weeks saying they are unable to complete order.

Dear oh dear, sounds like a mass outing to Beachy Head.

Contrary to popular belief the sales of certain deisels haven't fallen and prices remain bouyant. It was always a crazy idea to stick diesels in small city cars but in larger cars such as SUV, luxury and the executive sector, diesel rules. Neither diesel or petrol will die any time soon.

As for getting hammered, go look at a Golf or Passat or any other car that has a petrol,  diesel and all electric option. EV carries a very heafty premium over diesel which in itself carries a hefty premium over petrol due to all the emissions technology. How long before that EV pays for itself?

Should be fine, 245 Challenge DSG is still available for factory order as per Skoda brochure and bulletin JP refers to.
