What is the problem you are trying to solve?

The only sensor in the EGR valve of a 12-valve 1.2 Fabia is a position feedback potentiometer. Various fault codes could be generated if that is reading improbable values (e.g. 17847 Incorrect basic setting;17850 signal too high, 17851 signal too low). What numerical fault code are you seeing? What device is reading the codes?

Please confirm that your engine is a 12-valve 1.2.

Yes is a Skoda Fabia 1.2 htp and the fault code is p0407. One mechanic tould me that he can clean the egr valve and the acceleration cap.I looked inside and is dirty. The car is not running like a few weeks ago  so this could be the problem or i have to change the egr valve? Thank you for help i really appreciate. IMG-20190119-WA0000.thumb.jpg.83baa098810bdcd6a89a6e8afbade024.jpg

Sorry to jump in but what mileage does the car have on it out of interest? Does cleaning the edge really work long term? I paid £110 including rubber o rings and a gasket and replaced mine at 60k miles. I was worried the tube that seems to enter the flying saucer on top of egr would not clean/remain blocked. I was told the egr valves with more sensors cost £400 to £500 , just for the oe part so I bought a new one but retained the old one.

EGR valves on petrol engines don't really get very dirty, because they operate in such hot conditions. Cleaning it is unlikely to solve any problem.

The throttle body (acceleration cap?) does get dirty and the EGR valve outlet just below the throttle body can become blocked by soot, so yes, it may be useful to clean that.  The fault code number you show isn't a VW group specific code, and doesn't give much detailed info about what is wrong. Find someone near you with VCDS and get some better information before spending any money on parts or work.

Alternatively, buy a handheld scan tool that is compatible with VW-group cars of this age, maybe around £20?

Fabia diesel EGRs are completely different to petrol engine ones, even physically located in a totally different place on the engine. Petrol ones are all electric, no flying saucer. This isn't the thread for you.

I have no idea if it will work but the car it has 129000 miles. I have the car for7 month and everything was ok until this problem came.
