Flooded Boot In Vrs Estate

Featured Replies

dad swapped cars over the weekend (his vrs for a golf 2.0 gttdi - the other guy wanted more boot space for a trip to glasgow) and it was brought to his attention that there is a problem in the rear of his car! we have a dog so an official skoda rubber boot mat has been fitted from new keeping the boot in great condition...or so we thought . for some reason the other guy had lifted up this mat only to find the carpet soaking and under it everything soaking in drips of water/condensation. i just opened the cubby for the autochanger and there is literally a pool of water below it (maybe explains why it hasn't been happy reading cds . the problems abviously been there for a while as the rubber mats getting mouldy and at times there has been slight condensation on the inside of the windows (though at the time we were none the wiser). any ideas? dads away till the end of the week and as its a company car im not sure i can just take it to a skoda garage (its leased by lex)?

Sounds like the hose for the rear wash/wipe has either come loose or has disconnected all together.

Does the rear washer work?

yes it seem to work fine. i was going to comment on that but forgot.

edit: saying that however if it was loose where would the water get in and how could i get to it? im sure there used to be a guide on here somewhere?

the pipe that feeds the rear wash wiper feeds through the left hand cubby hole that might be your problem this has a connection in there it can come undone just push it back together

do i need to remove any boot trim to do this? i never saw it last time i was out.

There is a connection under the center plastic moulding at the top of the tailgate. Prise off the moulding and you will see it. I did mine over the weekend when I saw water dripping into the boot. I suspect the washer jet got frozen sometime over the winter and the water pressure popped the connection undone. The washer was still working.

There is a connector below the autochanger. Rear washer may still work but at reduced pressure (sometimes not noticable - so you end up with soaking boot  ).

I got a replacement autochanger under warranty, and told skoda CS that if I ever had problems with the wiring that was not replaced, due to corrosion/water damage, that they would be picking up the tab. :(

I've had it a few times now - I think the plastic connector is getting weaker and weaker so it happens more and more often. Its a very poor design and known problem. Dealer has needed to remove autochanger to fix mine.

my vrs hatch had the same problem ,turned out to be the seal on the rear light

according to my stealer it is a common problem as the water from the hatch aperture runs down over the light if the car is parked at an angle ,tried to sell me a new rear light till i suggested fitting a new seal ,"not available says service monkey " part number is *** *** *** says I quoting from ekta , best

well took out the autochanger today and had a look at the hose connector. it was together but not clicked - it came apart when i flicked the wire up. took out all the stuff in the spare wheel well and its airing in the garden. the carpet is soaking though and the wooden/cardboard support under it had mould on it in places. lets hope the connectors stay ok!
