Starter solenoid wire connector?

Featured Replies

I have the classic issue with the starter solenoid wire being broken, causing the car to not start.

I can replace the wire easily myself, however the plastic plug connector piece which attaches the wire to the starter solenoid has disintegrated into many pieces and is now missing.

Does anyone know the part number or connector type so that I can source a replacement connector plug? Ideally with the wire pre-attached.

Ok, so it appears to be 1K0973751.

Anyone know where I can source a brand new one of these from within the UK?

Far be it for me to state the bleeding obvious but Skoda parts are readily available from Skoda dealers, with a part number you can even order it over the phone or online.

Are you sure about that part number?

Ebay results for that don't look the same as what's on our car. Ours is more like the 357 972 771 part number that Nige's link was suggesting (item 18).

I'll have to double check on the car itself. I originally just google image searched "skoda fabia 2005 starter" for a reference image of the connection.

Here are two pictures I've just taken.

The RAC man looked at this when I originally broke down back in March of 2016. He was able to make a roadside repair, which is when the connector disintegrated. The repair has been ok since, but has now started to be a problem again. Wiggling the wire will get the car started until it happens again.

The white "residue" you can see is actually some plasticine we stuffed in the hole to try and seal it up from the elements.

I am tempted to take the battery box off and take a proper look at whatever is left of the connector. Hopefully then I can identify the correct part and make a proper lasting repair with a longer piece of wire.

Original connector was busted and not reusable.

Have connected a new piece of wire temporarily with a 4.8mm blue female receptacle crimp.

Will order a replacement connector to fit properly at a later date.

Started first time on the drive (cold engine) and after a 22 mile test drive to get the engine bay nice and hot.

Fingers crossed that's sorted it.

For completeness, ordered a pair of 1K0973751 on ebay (from latvia) and it was the correct part.
