Steering wheel volume control cracked

Featured Replies

Hi all, the thumbwheel on the volume control cracked a while ago, it's been working ok despite this but recently it jams at some points, guess it's expanded due to the weather.

What are my options about fixing / replacing this? I expect I'll have to replace a whole part of the assembly? Take it apart and try and fix?

Cheers,

Has happened to me and both the thumb wheels were replaced under warranty. Not sure the process involved in actually replacing it though. If it helps, I think the relevant part number from the receipt is 5e0919719bwhs.

Noticed it about 6 months ago, car is a RS now 4.5 yrs old.

Mine well out of warranty. That part number is the replacement button modules I've been looking at, thanks. Was hoping for a cheaper fix 😕

Assuming you don't have paddle shifters I may have a set of buttons on offer.  Was planning on selling as a set with the wheel but good to see it go to a forum member in need.

I do have paddle shifters... Are the buttons different?

@Spongefactory yes the connections for the paddles go through the button module so my spare buttons wont work for you.  Unless you don't want to use the paddles.

Ah, good to know, cheers. Will try and take mine apart and attempt a repair 😕

@Spongefactory did you finally fix it? I had exactly the same issue and not sure if it's feasible to take it or apart and fix it or replace the wheel only. Moreover I'm concerned about the airbag during disassembling / assembling. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks!

I've had the airbag off a few times when swapping the wheel and changing the buttons. Never had a problem just made sure the key was out.

I've got 2015 Octavia Combi and the volume roller cracked, vehicle is not under warranty anymore. Didn't want to pay £300+ for spare part. Cracked piece was preventing the roller from moving properly.

Luckily I was able to get the cracked piece out by carefully sucking it with hoover and it was still in one piece. Then it was just matter of gluing it in place and all turned out well.

Wow, well done! I have no idea where my cracked bit ended up. I wonder whether people would be able to get these replaced under 'good will' even if out of warranty...

My thumb dial broke too and looked exactly the same as pictured above. I used the vacuum cleaner as per and managed to get it looking new again with super glue. Thanks for the info, I was at a bit of a loss before reading this.

Mine has decided to come apart this morning. Can’t really see how it can be bonded back together.

Once it cools down a bit I’ll give it a go, far too hot in there at the moment..

Hi all,

First post here - go easy, eh

The volume roller on my '20 Karoq (assume the same across models) cracked, however mine went like a broken Hula-Hoop rather than just a piece coming out - it is as if the roller itself in hollow, rather than having a plastic inner, as the pics above show.

Are there any recommended sources of replacements. We'd only had the car a a few months (bought from Lookers Skoda, Stockport) but they / Skoda weren't in the slightest bit interested in replacing it

Cheers

G

It looks like you can get replacements off ali express. They won't be OEM but I've had plenty of parts from there and never had an issue. Look to be about £10-15 each side
