Indicators sometimes don't stop flashing

Featured Replies

OK, I don't know if this is a fault, or other daftness in the car.

If I click the indicator stalk either direction the indicators function as they should, and cancel when I cancel the indicator.

If I give a momentary tap on the stalk, ether deliberately or by accident, the indicators keep flashing in that direction and won't cancel. If I give it a tap the other way then the other indicators keep flashing. Even properly indicating with the stalk clicked on and then back off, doesn't always cancel the flashing. Sometimes it takes a few left and right clicks on the stalk to stop the flashing. Doesn't happen every time, but maybe three times in four.

It makes me look like I am messing about.

Anyone else come across this? And what can I do to stop it?

Thank you.

It's comfort flashing for changing lanes etc. Once it's starts, just leave it and it'll flash between 3-5 times and stop.

You might be able to disable it using the maxidot if you've got one fitted, otherwise, VCDS or similar should be able to turn it off.

Ahh, cheers, so not a fault, just a PITA then! :D

Heh until you get used to it ;)

Section from a 2011 owners manual:

Quote

Right and left turn signal light

–Push the lever upwards or downwards.

–If you only wish to flash three times (the so-called convenience turn signal), push the lever briefly up to the upper or lower pressure point and release it. This function can be activated/deactivated in the Information display

–Turn signal for changing lanes - in order to only flash briefly, move the lever up or down to the pressure point and hold it in this position.

As I say, if you have a maxidot cluster fitted, you should be able to go into Settings, Lights and Visibility, Lane ch. flash to enable/disable it :)

I'll need to figure out what maxidot is next. ;)

Maxidot is the highline/better instrument cluster.

Easiest way to tell if you've got one is to open a car door. If there is a picture in the centre panel showing exactly which door(s) are open, it's a maxidot.

Example of a maxidot cluster and it's menus fitted to a FL Octavia here:

Ahh, thanks, no, I don't have Maxidot then. Mine is a pre FL scout.

I'll get used to it, but I do miss my Octavia mk1.

From the handbook:-

Right  and left  turn signal light
– Push the lever upwards A or downwards
– If you only wish to flash three times (the so-called convenience turn signal),
push the lever briefly up to the upper or lower pressure point and release it.

– Turn signal for changing lanes - in order to only flash briefly, move the lever up
or down to the pressure point and hold it in this position.

I have changed mine to flash 5 times. Useful on small roundabouts of which there are many in the UK.

Turned mine off, could not stand it, was especially dangerous on gyratory roundabouts or junctions where 2 slip roads peel off tangentially, I have always used the light pressure on the indicator stalk for 1,2,3 or however many flashes I wanted, what I dont want is further ones, when you stop indicating is as much of a signal as when you start.

I saw a new car ad and written at the bottom was "up to 17 driver aids" and another for the Hyundai i-something where the guy was driving around all night in the city exchanging texts and smileys with his girlfriend, made my blood boil, these new breed of drivers who buy a car because it can sync with their phone will have 17 essential driving skills to forget if they ever even get to learn them.
