Skoda Octavia 3 Glow plugs

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have Skoda Octavia 2014 1.6tdi greenline 6 gears on 84000 miles.

Today I started the car and the engine lamp lights on but didn’t show me any error on the dashboard. Immediately went in a garage. They told me that the problem is from the glow plugs and when they tried to take them out all 4 of them were stucked/sealed and couldn’t take them out. Told me that don’t want to risk to use more pressure because can snapped the whole thing and then will be a huge problem.

At the moment the light is off but I assume that will light on shortly. They advised me that is not dangerous to drive like that.

What do I need to do and who can change them all?

I live in Newcastle btw.

Regards

Nick

A garage should be able to remove them. It could be time consuming but it’s not rocket science.

I think I’d try a different garage.

I believe the glow plug light can indicate the dpf needing attention, not necessarily faulty glow plugs.

It was not a glow plug light. It was engine light. They did a diagnostic and told me that are the glow plugs..

I had in the past problem with the DPF, went in the motorway and after a minute the error disappeared..

In that case they need changing....

A garage should be able to do it and deal with any issues such as seized or snapped off glow plugs.  Take it to a local VW specialist, I’m sure they will have experience of this job.

Went to 5 garages and none of them took the glow plugs out. Found the best specialist in the city for this kind of job and even he told me that there is a small risk that could be snapped and then will cost me around £1500 to sort everything out..

I understand that even in the factory they know that at some point the glow plugs will seize/seal.. just a poor design, not only on the Skodas..

Don't know to risk it or just to drive like that because in the garages advised me that I can drive with 1 fault and 3 good glow plugs without any problem..

Have you actually tested the glow plugs in situ, fairly simple procedure. Modern diesels start up so efficiently these days I would be surprised if any had gone.

Trouble is that engine warning light on is an MoT failure these days

Previous keeper of my 1.6tdi had all 4 glow plugs changed @ 50k miles. No idea why.
