Running a Fridge on rear 12v socket

Featured Replies

I have an absorption fridge which I will pre-cool then run on the 12v socket in the boot of my Fabia,

I seem to remember the socket is around 15amps. Have I missed anything?

No problems with running travel fridges in the trunk, there's actually some compressor fridges (Waeco, Dometic) that work from regular passenger car 12V sockets as well.

The socket in the trunk is there for the use of a fridge. I've run this one with good success so far, https://www.waecofridges.co.uk/freezer/cfx40.htm

Thank you, mine is a Dometic, I had run it before in my Yeti, but Skoda do such odd things with their specs.

Not sure about the mini fridges but the peltier cool boxes tend to run at about 50-60w = 5 amps (ish) and are often less than 50% efficient.

Hence just be careful leaving them on over night.

The Dometic is an 8amp rating (I was more worried about the Fabia wiring) it is a 1700 which is supposed to be very efficient.

The Dometic 1700 worked extremely well, I put it in the boot with the vents

to the  rear door plugged into the rear power socket
