Windscreen Gap

Featured Replies

Caution! Beware the gap between the top of the dashboard and the windscreen.

I couldn’t find my daughters disabled pass - I checked everywhere, under seats everywhere- I knew we had used it the previous night, then my wife suggested if it had “fell down the dashboard” and there it was - just the top edge visible. If it had been a bit smaller it would have been lost.

One set of tweezers and a couple of minutes and the pass was recovered.

I’m contemplating getting some kind of black lightweight foam to tuck down there to prevent anything else from disappearing into the void.

I see there was a chap on the Superb III forum who lost his uncovered iPhone down his dash and then the knife he used to recover his phone.

I suppose it’s the way the dash is installed, there must be a reason for it (the cynic in me says cost) Not good!

also see, I’m not the only one-

I'm sure I saw a specific gasket on AliExpress to seal this gap. Maybe a known issue in China....

Who’s going to be the guinea pig and fit one to see if it squeaks, makes the dash rattle or any other ill effect ?

@silver1011  is this reason you posted the link in the Octavia MKII section??!! 🤣

Yep, I'm never brave enough to go first!

As I didn’t bother to do anything - this being the simplest option - the windscreen gap caught me out again last night.

On the way back from seeing Tarantino’s latest film (recommended if you’re a fan), I paid at the parking machine £1.50 and took the ticket back to the car and placed it in the screen ticket holder till I got to the exit barrier.

On reaching the barrier I went to retrieve the ticket from the screen but fumbled my grip and the ticket fell, I didn’t see where it went - it was just gone,  it wasn’t on the floor / door pockets etc. Luckily there was no queue behind me and after a minute of searching I pressed the barrier intercom and the parking gods showed mercy on me and let me go (thank you Resorts World) It could be a costly mistake in some car parks as they’ll charge you for a whole day.

Not to be beaten the works endoscope (no not the medical colonoscopy type) is going to get an outing lunchtime to confirm my suspicions and locate said ticket, then I’ll have to plan the recovery operation....

Update:

Dash / windscreen gap investigated with the endoscope and nothing found. My hopes were raised when I saw what I thought was the ticket but it was a white paper label stuck to the screen just to taunt me. Lots of white foam beyond the black vinyl then painted bodywork.

Harry Houdini himself would have been happy with such a disappearing trick. Perhaps I was a bit quick in accusing the gap in this instance, or perhaps there’s another way into the dash further down. I guess we’ll never know.

Any possible suggestions could be forwarded on a postcard, and I’ll pop that down the dashboard too......

I read this thread last week and when I checked on our Karoq, sure enough, a deep cavity between the screen and dashboard.

I purchased one of those rubber strips mentioned above but from e-bay (only £3.75 with next fay delivery), fitted it this a.m., took me all of 15 minutes.

Looks to have done the job nicely.

@Berisford if you have a link to the one you purchased I’d be interested. There seems to be a carbon fibre one but I don’t like the look of it.
