Cars v Bikes

Featured Replies

Nope' date=' lt cost more than that. It produced 700bhp, did 0 - 62mph in 2.5 seconds and could be geared to 190mph. It can go from 0 - 120mph in 7 seconds and brake from 160mh to zero in 5 seconds.

Now then, leave it for dead ? Dream on. Do some research before making silly claims.

By the way, the R1 was 'left for dead' in a recent Top Gear race on a track by.... wait for it..... a Porsche 911 Carrera 4.[/quote']

And in what real world is this practical Jonny boy? It's a track beast, a beautiful track beast, I appreciate it, but, there is no comparison. You are talking speed at a level of cost beyond most ordinary mortals financial limits and I am talking about mere mortals means, I think we will have to agree to disagree.

Nice car by the way I'm jealous :D:thumbup:

Don't get me wrong guys, I really do like bikes. Some of the recent sports bikes really are technological masterpieces. I just havn't got the guts to get on one. :D

  Not at all. I'm a firm believer that racing should be confined to the track. Therefore my argument about cars bieng quicker holds up. I think that too many bikers are used to racing inferior cars on the public highway that they have this 'air of invincibility' about them. Wrong. When a Racing bike beats a Racing car around a racing trac[/u']k (and they wont) I'll think 'hmmm, bikes really are quicker than cars' ;)

Brands Indy Circuit

BSB Race time - Gregorio Lavilla - Ducati 999 - 45.8 secs (best lap)

BTCC Race Time - Matt Neal - Integra TypeR - 49.925 secs (best Lap)

BSB bikes are based on road going sports bikes and are not "that" far off real world sports bikes.

BTCC based on road going sports saloons, not sure on mod's etc but the racing format is the same, most enlightened journo's draw a parallel between the 2 series.

It would appear that the bike is 4secs a lap quicker in this case, there are more but I am bored and off to bed soon so can't be arsed with it.

Jonny just read your latest post. You are right about the air of invincability.

and about racing being done on the track. In those circumstances yes a car would be faster.

GROW UP EVERYONE

This is supposed to be a thread on cars v bikes

Everyone calm down

I like bikes, would love one, but I would be dead in 24 hrs riding any reasonable performance 2 wheel thing.

I have 'acceptable' (officially) driving ability and have a vehicle with reasonable performance so i can cope with that.

If I had 24 hrs to live, I would nick a bike

I want to live until next payday so I have a car

Shut up scally turncoat....

You really should go to bed and carry on your dream. Dome some REAL research. Ducati 999 v Honda Integra ? Behave. Power to weight ratios are NOWHERE near similar.

Ducati 999 - 0 - 60 in about 3 seconds. Honda Integra ? Well, not.

The Ducati weighs about 350 kg - The Honda does NOT.

And on ...

But did you not say when a racing bike beats a racing car round a racing track? are BTCC cars NOT racing cars? are the series format's not almost identical as a production based race series?

maybe you should do a bit of real research after the statement of .. what was it, a recent test of a porsche vs an R1? and the R1 being left for dead?

350kg on the 999, Lavilla must have had someone pillion. It's all relative, an F1 car and a MotoGP bike ... it would be the F1 car very easily :o , but it has power to weight in its favour not to mention grip, but to compare the race classes, F1 = MotoGp, BTCC = BSB.

Let's agree to disagree eh ? :D

Nowt better to do Jon?

Why not start a pointless thresd instead ??

Please feel free to join me in mine !!...:D

But overtaking *is* perfectly legal , as is filtering to the front of a queue. Feel free to point to the relevent legislation to show otherwise.

Is it?, feel free to point to the relavent legislation that allows bikes different laws on the road than cars.

I really don't understand why bikes doing this shold annoy you.

I'll filter to the front of a queue and as soon as the lights change I'm gone before the cars have started moving. Nobody is inconvenienced at all and it's not at all like trying to push in at the supermarket

But it is pushing in though, and it does annoy me, who knows why, perhaps i'm just a miserable git, but it annoys me and I know i'm not alone in that.

The main problem really isn't them being at the front of the que, but when passing the stationary traffic, if someone were to be pulling out of a junction through the que, or decide to do a 'U' turn or whatever the biker will blame them if theres an accident, had they been sat patiently in there place in the que there wouldn't be a problem.

Someone else made a comment earlier too about a biker kicking someones door as they pass, I'd never intentionally do anything to wind up a biker or anyone for that matter, but if any biker ever kicked my door or intentionally hit my mirror or something they'd wake up underneath 2 tonnes of Skoda!

I totally agree with the previous post!

i am from England, and WILL queue, whatever the circumstances..

I don't have a bike - never have and never will. When I had my mid-life crisis I bought the Octy :) A lot of guys of my age (lets say 45+:) ) decided to rediscover their lost youth and bought BIG bikes. Unfortunately, in this part of the world (Central Scotland), a lot of the self-same guys ended up as smears on the tarmac of the A82/84/85 :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn: Terrific roads, but with a bad reputation for dead bikers, especially "mature" ones.

I have the greatest of respect for you guys that ride bikes. Apart from the asswipes that sit a foot off my rear bumper. I can brake a *lot* faster than you, and I don't want brains on my rear spoiler. Sorry :o :O

And I don't mean that I would brake hard deliberately. Not nice :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

Just been watching an old episode of TopGear on UKG2. Clarkson was in an Ariel Atom (the one that made his cheeks undulate in the wind) and he absolutely p*ssed on a sports bike round the track.

It's the old argument of 2 wheels Vs 4. 4 wheels are always gonna be quicker round the corners.

Doesn't help the Jap importers have stopped importing the 400cc machines - most of these had more than enough power (some will disagree though).

When I'd considered getting a bike, a 400 appealed (ZXR), but I've noticed that they seem quite rare these days. Was there just not enough demand for them in this country?

Mention of Fizzies earlier - I really ****ed off the lad across the street when I told him that if I disconnected the fan belt on my 2-litre Vitesse, it would release more power than his FSIE produced

600's have taken over the world!!!

Oh but that was in the days when we were allowed to have fun !!

Just to add my tuppence worth! I was a biker for about 6 months. Passed my test, had a Ducati supersport 600, had a few mates with bikes, looking forward to some good fun.

Now being only a novice biker I was very very careful, I took it nice and slow and easy, none of this knee down 100mph plus nonsense, and I can quite happily say that even doing just these basics, the experience of riding a bike is just sooo different to a car and simply without comparison. It makes you basically feel alive, the amount of feedback you get from the bike, the road, the surroundings is fantastic. No amount of hard driving in a normal everyday road car even on a track with the windows down and your head out of the window is going to come close. Basically the bike feels like an extension of your own body, fantastic stuff!

Unfortunately however, after 6 months, when I was just really getting into it, my best mate, who had been riding for approx 10 years everyday was killed by a car driver who had no license who simply pulled out in front of him at a junction... Knowing that he was a far better rider than I ever could be and there was nothing he could have done to prevent it, and the fact that I have family meant that simply I couldnt risk it anymore, even for the adrenalin rush which I have never been able to recreate since in any other way.

So a short but fantastic chapter in my life! My recommendation would be to make every single car driver take a cbt or something similar on the road, then they would realise exactly what being alert on the road and taking care of other drivers really is about. With all these ABS, Airbags, side impact bars etc etc, people are so protected in their cage and take too many risks without thinking of anyone else. I considered myself a good car driver until I rode a bike, and I realised just how lazy and safe I was in a car! Of course you get lots of irresponsible bikers that need to grow up and not blame other people for accidents, but that is their choice and its a shame that all bikers get tarnished in the same way.

Let's agree to disagree eh ? :D

It would be the best course of action I think m8

I was a biker for years, from the ages of 16 to 23, when I got married.

It was great fun, but I don't think I'd enjoy it these days. I've got a mate who's a paramedic, and their nickname for bikers is "Organ Donors" :(

Or perhaps I'm getting old....

Phil

It takes me 30 mins to get to work in the car, and 20 on the bike. Nuff said!

This is exactly what I was trying to convey. :D Like someone else said you either get bikes or you don't.

Thing is I defy anyone who gets on a bike to not enjoy it! I totally understand why somepeople are not interested: the danger, getting wet, leathers etc etc, but I reckon any petrol head who goes for a ride on a bike (after training so they are fully in control of their bike!) will love it and realise just what that bike 'thing' is. Not saying they will go out and buy one and become a biker, but you will understand! :)

Sometimes though, bikes filter to the front and then I end up pulling off before them and having to drive aroudn them. No this isnt a bike speed vs car speed thing, its a reaction thing.

Well I'm just a petrol head and currently have this little collection :D

Make up your own mind, cars are great, can be fun and practical and best of all keep the rain off and some have heated seats ;)

Motorbikes are just plain fun :D
