Anyone used a DIY Alloy wheel repair kit?

Featured Replies

I have a couple of light scratches on my 18 inch diamond cut alloys.  Has anyone used a diy repair kit to repair their own?  If so which one/type?  Thanks.

Not bought a kit, but I also had a couple of scratches on mine after driving over a recessed drain cover. The edge of the road around the cover scratched the edge of the alloy. Not the painted section of the wheel though, just the shiny edge. That's the problem with 19inch wheels, low profile tyres and diamond cut alloys. I had some glass paper and fine wet and dry. Rubbed it down with the glass paper to get rid of the scratches, then used the wet and dry paper to get it smooth. Masked some of the wheel and then sprayed clear lacquer over the job so that water could not get into it. It turned out really quite good. You only notice it if you really look for it close too. Trouble is mind, I know it's there, so still bloody annoying!!  On my previous VRS, I had one buckled alloy wheel and two burst tyres from pot holes. So far with this VRS, just the scratches.

Thanks for your reply.  I have a scratch which goes from silver to black on the outer rim of the alloys. I think I will rub it down a bit more and coat/seal it.....
