Scratched Crater Anthracite Alloy - advice please

Featured Replies

I bumped one of my 19" Crater Anthracite alloy rims on a car park kerb - can anyone please advise the best way to repair this?

That looks fairly light damage. It depends on your budget you could call a Mobile repair company who will repair at work or your home or if you want to do it cheaper you could sand it lightly with some wet and dry paper and get some touch up from your local dealer and carefully hand paint it. It won't look as good doing it yourself but all about budget.

However you decide to repair the wheel, I suggest you get Alloygators fitted. So if you have the misfortune to kerb a wheel, the Alloygators will protect the rim. They cost about £90 a set of 4 or can be supplied & fitted for £150 for the set. See the Alloygator web site for a list of approved fitters.

That's the diamond cut surface you've damaged there, the repair will be a bit more involved than a quick touch up unfortunately and would really need to be done professionally. You should be able to find someone who works with diamond cut finished wheels easily. A mobile repair company might even do them too.

For the moment though get some clear nail varnish or touch up lacquer and paint in the scratches to stave off any corrosion from starting until you get the wheel seen to.

I really wish manufacturers would just fit steel wheels with plastic covers you could simply replace, and diamond cut alloys seen to have a finish that the protective lacquer doesn't effectively adhere too, once you have a chip or scratch come winter the road salt works its way further under coating making it look even worse, it doesn't help that some of the kerbstones around here are a hard hand cut stone often with a sharp squared off edge and no camber. The noise it causes is even worse than finger nails on a blackboard.
