coolant temp sensor

Featured Replies

hi again i got this coming up as a intermittant fault would it be cos the engine wasnt running

No

I would say it is because it is on its way out.

Intermittent means it does not happen all the time.

But at around £20.00 + VAT it is worth replacing it

just got in the car to come home engine warmed to about 70 degrees i looked down again and the temp gauge was all the way back to nothing looked again then it was back up to 90

is this what it means by intermittant

Yup

Thats it.

Means sometimes it will work sometimes it wont.

But at least it is a cheap repair

Sarah

It's also extremely easy to do.

question is now is it safe to drive to gatwick from cardiff as i'm off to see mickey mouse friday morning i scanned again this morning and could not find the fault

is this because it is intermittant ill try again later

my cars not gonna blow because of this is it ?

i need to get to gatwick to let the cockney spivs park my car i'm going to leave them a note about cold starts and low front spoilers (although if i do this they wil prbably pi55 in my petrol tank)

My temp gauge does the same thing every now and again!

Someone said it is easy to change, what is IT?

I guess you mean the temp sender unit or something.

Can you tell me where abouts it is, so that I can replace mine?

Hi

It litrally takes mins to do.

As long as it is cold.

It is in the thermostat housing

Just unclip the plug.

Take out the retaining clip.

Replace with new one making sure seal ok

Replace clip.

Reconnect electrics and away you go.

Sounds easy?

No you cant, a faulty coolant temp sensor means the left hand wheel will fall off

All sillyness aside yes you can, it 'may' use a bit more fuel thats all.

aahhh so could that be why i cant get more than about 28 mpg lately

For sure.

A piece of free advice, stump up the extra £10 and put a whole thermostat housing on it, they are also common to break and it comes with the sensor anyhow.

Both

God your quick with your replies:eek:

If only all Skoda employee's were as quick!:P

But as you are 'moving on' I'm not sure if you are a Skoda employee or not, any more!?

Anyway, how do I fix my dodgy temperature thingy? Please...:o

Im not a Skoda employee, never have been ;)

But I suspect you need a coolant temp switch..

There have been a few supersessions on it though, you will need the latest four pin green sensor. You local VAG dealer will have one, about £25 max inc VAT id say.

Thanks.

So what are you doing on here? and how come you know soooooooo much?

I work for a Skoda dealer I have owned a modded a fair few Skodas and wear Skoda underpants.

That enough for ya?

you should name your daughter to be fabia
