Factory fitted or "modification"!?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Not particularly concerned (just curious), but wondering whether anyone else's mk3 Fabia came with this lovely piece of insulation / shielding towards the back of the engine bay? My OCD side doesn't particularly enjoy it being there, but if it serves an actual purpose then I guess it needs to stay. Note, it's not attached to the firewall.

Cheers,

JJ

It stops the turbo nuking the aircon pipes.

I think that I tried to tidy it up a bit on my wife's 2015 Polo, or maybe the snap fastener was not closed or the "wrap round" was snapped shut without being wrapped round, so I sorted that out!

Edit:- it probably is a "factory fitted modification"!!

Oh! my, I wonder what led up to them putting a second firewall in. Were there many incidents of enflamed aircon pipes

why did they stop fitting it, don't they care anymore .....

Well, allowing any extra heat into fridge gas lines is not useful, especially as one of them has had heat stripped out of it prior to reaching this point, so boiling or near boiling compressed gas-liquid will not do much when allowed to expand into the evaporator will it.

I believe that are is around the catalytic converter, the turbo is more to the right.

Haven't looked too hard at the heatshielding myself tbh.
