Kodiaq 150PS vs 190PS 4x4 DSG - Opinions & alternative options such as performance chips?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just about to place an order for an Kodiaq 2.0 TDi 4x4 DSG 190PS and been advised that there is a 25 week plus lead time. However, I can get the same trim and model but with the 150PS diesel unit in 10-12 weeks. Getting some quotes in, the lower powered car is £400 cheaper a year.

I'm just wondering is there a big difference between the two cars in the real world. Most of my driving will be motorway for work, and then rest of the time on family duties (2 adults and 2 young teens). We go camping locally and abroad and expect the car to be filled to its capacity.

Is there any options like maybe using a performance chip to get to near the same output as a 190?? and if so what are the recommendations for plug and play?

Thanks in advance.

You don't mention which spec Kodiaq you fancy or what your budget is but have you considered looking through the Skoda Approved, used pages ?

If you don't mind travelling to get the car, there's some decent deals to be had on pre reg cars and you'd get it almost immediately. Of course, if you wanted extras and a particular colour, then you might be disappointed unless you were lucky enough to find your exact spec.

Thanks for the reply. but I have been looking and they don't match what I want.

The spec is L&K Kodiaq 4x4 DSG 150 or 190PS. Extras wanted are virtual dash, foot-activated boot, active cruise control (part of a pack), drive mode selection.

Oh well, it was worth a try. It'll have to be new then as I don't think there's much about with the virtual dash.

Sorry I can't help with the 150 vs 190 bhp dilemma, I have the 2.0 TSI.

@parmsuk

Is that a factory build that they say you can have in 10-12 weeks from now?

I would take that with a pinch of salt.  This is not a normal year, just as last year was not.

Yes, factory build.

Now i'm getting worried!...so maybe the 25 weeks plus lead time is more feasible for 190PS version if the 10-12 weeks quote for 150PS is 10-12 weeks!

Which Dealership Group?

Things really seem as though they will get cocked up this year on build weeks and deliveries, then Brexit in November thrown in.

Best check with more than one salesperson, not that they know more than they are told to say.

This was from Aylesbury Skoda, but I contacted Skoda directly and the confirmed the current lead times also!

Mine ordered last week was the same - 2 dealers - 25 weeks if I wanted 190 and 11 to 12 weeks for a 150

Seems they have some sort of schedule from Skoda

My local dealer (Mitchell's, cheshire oaks) has 2 demos for sale. Both l and k. Buisness grey 150 with virtual dash. Quartz grey 190 with virtual dash. Both £35k. Dont know if that helps but thought I'd post it.

I have just ordered a190 l&k with quite a few options and the dealer quoted 20 weeks . If you go for the 150 remember you cannot tow with it , as if you go camping usually the next step is bigger tent more gear = camping trailer . I have not driven a 150 kodiaq , but had a 150 Alhambra followed by a 190 and fully loaded there was a noticeable difference .

I think the 150 you can still tow - but not in Manual - must be DSG

Also paying £36K for a new L&K with £1400 extras  - then there is 2K deposit allowance - so £34K - and lower rate finance on new than second hand.

So be careful on the Prereg... they are not always the better deal.

Took a test drive of a 190PS 4x4 and to be honest, even though I have not driven the 150PS version my mind is made up that I should be aiming for the 190PS. I think the 190PS loaded up is when you probably can tell the difference in the real world between the two.

Also point noted about towing!....but my limit is set and hence the reason of choice of car....Kodiaq with a roof box = enough!

There are quite a few threads on here of people test driving both the 150PS and 190PS diesels and not being able to notice much, if any difference in terms of power delivery.

Take a look at the MkIII Superb forum, the 190PS is actually the less favourable engine, less refined than the 150PS. Not sure if this is also replicated on the Kodiaq.

If lead-times are a real issue, and the 150PS turns out to be a quicker delivery option, then I'd recommend test driving both, back to back if possible.

I ordered my Kodiaq RS on 4/5 and it's not gonna be here till November... So your build week time for the 190PS sounds about right. If you're not in too much of a rush I'd wait for the 190...

I test drove the 150 and the 190. The 150 feels fine unladen, but you really notice the difference when either overtaking or driving fully laden under load. The 190 doesn’t feel especially fast, particularly because of its lack of power delivery when off boost, but it does make long distances when laden nice and relaxed.

The other thing to bear in mind is the 190 forces 4x4 which introduces a fuel penalty compared to the 2wd version of the 150.

The one you can't tow with is the 150ps + 4 wheel drive + manual gearbox + 7 seats.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi

I was told 26 weeks for sportline today but that the 2020 specs were changing and wouldnt be released until October. Im in Dublin ROI. This could push collection to late/feb March. If I place order now it’ll be old spec and won’t be January pickup anyway. Is this a pricing issue or is there an updated model in 2020 that I should be waiting for. Only extras would be max upgrade on seats but he suggested electric driver now possible both seats electric sports in 2020.

@Speedfight77

Welcome.

Were you told that you could order a build now and it would be old spec?

That is not the case, they will not build a MY2019 car now.

No that was just my rationalising the timing. If I don’t know spec/pricing for 2020 now, am I ordering old spec. I think you’ve clarified that. So when would be the earliest I could kick of the 26 week order to have as close to 1/1/2020 as possible? When realistically are these details available to dealers and 2020 orders taken?

The factory is already building new spec 2020 vehicles

If you are ordering 150 TDi its around 12 week delivery and 25 weeks for the 190 TDI... or at least that was the story by 2 different dealers 3 weeks ago..

So I ordered the 2020 L&K in Race Blue in 150 TDI 4x4 DSG

Anything you order now will be MY 2020 spec (Skoda changes model years after their summer break in August). So - waiting does not get you a different spec unless you wait until this time next year, when they switch to MY 2021.

There will be a pricing issue right now in that the dealer doesn't know exactly what this MY 2020 Kodiaq Sportline will cost and what may be added or removed from the 2019 specifications. You can place an order but the price may go up (likely) or down (unlikely). If you know you are going to buy and order this car no matter what they do price wise then order it now, its already going to be next year before you see it (assuming the 26 week lead time for an order here in Ireland is correct).

From what I can see, our Irish Skoda dealers aren't motivated to go any distance for you on Kodiaqs  - they seem able to sell any stock that comes in at more than list price anyways.

I’m very biased, but no one complains of having too many horses under the bonnet!

Just come back from France where we did 1300 miles in a couple of weeks. We have the 190 version and with the car being fully laden it was a breeze. With the 150 I test drove previously I could see we would have struggled.

Happy with the 43mpg with a boot fully loaded and 4 of us onboard.

I have the 150TDI manual in my Tarraco and we covered 2500 miles across Europe fully loaded (no towing or roofbox) a few weeks ago without any issues. It's more than sufficient, Uphill in Austria and Slovenia on the motorway it didn't even think of having to change down to 5th gear.

As other have stated with the 190 you will get 4x4 and DSG which impacts tax, fuel and other servicing costs.

You can easily stage1 tune the 150 TDI to 190-220BHP and 450Nms if you really want at Revo.

Fully loaded = 4 passengers, 4 suitcases, 50l fridge, and then all stuffed to the roof with various bags no gaps left
