Trailer insurance

Featured Replies

Do I need it?

trailer is galvanised steel and only has a  1 x 1.5m box on it.

Car is insured (dur), but will this cover the trailer? I’m not concerned about damage to my trailer even though technically it did cost a bit, more concerned 3rd party if they hit me iykwim

Check your insurance policy documents but I am fairly sure that when I was towing  caravan it was insured for third party damage on my policy. I assume that you have told your insurance company that you have a towbar fitted to the car.

We're with NFU and our trailer is covered for third party liabilities - just like the car - but also comprehensive cover for loss or damage - again, just like the car.

In our case the cover is included in the policy at no extra cost.

Yes the insurers are well aware of the towbar being fitted to my car

I called them anyway about the cover and you’re absolutely right regarding 3rd party cover on the trailer

That’s what my insurers said, I’m covered 3rd party but no increase in premium - not even for telling them about the ‘modification’ (towbar) lol

'Breakdown cover'.

I always have cover that covers Trailers or Caravans being towed and that the Car Hire vehicle will have a Towbar & be an Automatic.

Never had to have a car provided yet, and getting one might mean a long wait somewhere.

Had to have vehicles and trailer recovered though to get repairs.
