One thing that really annoys me, looking at car adverts, is the **HUGE SPEC** on adverts on the L&K models, you think "OK, here we go, this will have some extras!" and then no. It's the standard spec with ZERO extras. 🙄😡

There's 2 manual cars with exactly the spec I want, one is a good colour, good miles and a decent price. Must. Hold. Out. for an auto...! 😣

Petrol blue with cream leather is the best combination in my opinion, none in that colour when I was looking. I would go for this over the cheaper one, less miles, most of the extras you wanted (except the Pano roof) but lots of toys in the L&K. Is it at a Skoda dealer?

Yeah, approved used at a main Skoda dealer.

If it was £1000 cheaper I'd be snapping their hand off, but at £18500 it needs more thinking about than that.

This any good for ya ?

Well, being an owner of 2015 MKII FL Superb S 2.0 TDI  - the blandest and lowest of them all (I think mine having a Cruise Control is a bit higher than S - or actually S) I can offer you some info,

I chose this car after careful research - it is still MKII but having FL it also received the improved engine that found it's way to MKIII (that started production literally 3 months later), which means that water pump is now lower risk and other small changes... the other reason I bought it was £6.5k for it in September 2018. Not sure why. I mean the car had 105k miles then already, only accesories included were manual and boot light/removable torch... And after buying it I had to replace brakes - pads all over and front discs -  and also is dinged here and there. But it's cosmetics only, which doesn't bother me: if I accumulate enough of them (I get dinged, not I'm dinging others - parking in shopping centres are atrocious... and I park in 4-5 different countries)... Well,  I know a a good body and fender shop...

As for driving - comfort is there. MY wife and daughter are prone to motion sickness, and this car is handling so well, they actually enjoy rides. So there. I personally was not supposed to use it daily... With dropping my little one to school and going to work is 2.5 mile drive one way with one stop in the middle, meaning DPF complaint is pretty regular every other month, but this is a good occasion to go to the seaside (we live in Leeds and visit Cleethorpes often). After that trip DPF is quiet for said 2 months.

Depending on style of driving I'm averaging 35 or 48 mpg (as shown by onboard, so  adjust down for accuracy) in city. Why those two? Sometimes, when I'm in no hurry I do not use accelerator (just clutch and brake and of course when it's safe)... I noticed dynamic drive causes the DPF complain every month, compared to more laid back style...

I also drive to Poland twice a year and this Skoda already made this schedule. In December 2018 i changed oil and all filters and also whole timing kit (cheaper than expected, even with work being done in Poland by my trusted mechanic - who has 12 years experience in Skoda Dealership Service). Timing kit was really unnecessary, and according to papers I would have to replace the timing belt just about now, but for £200 total (and that includes filters and oil change) a no brainer really.

My normal trip is 4 adults and boot loaded to the roof. When I hit Europe I put CC on 135 kph (which is about 88 mph) but not shy accelerating to 150 (which is 95 mph) if needed so as to not brake. I did whole December 2018, 1250 miles on 2.5 tanks of fuel (140 liters total - to the brim on start, to the brim and extra 10 l in Germany, 20 l in Poland to get to where I'm going without worrying and end up not hitting reserve), going back in Jan 2019 was a bit better. However, the round trip this summer was even more economical (130l one way, same style but AC was on all the time, which actually blew my mind).

UK motorways are slower, so I average 68 mpg there and then (with onboard showing actually 70.5). Trips like this are family affair, so no dynamic driving (mostly), I understand someone else would drive more... aggresively i think is the word.

I'm aware it's not exactly what you're looking at - 4x4 will be more fun. But Engine is similar if not exactly same, so I thought solid numbers on something similar are nice, too.

Oh, and one thing - after a year I still can't tell Octavia from same lineup from  my Superb... So if being noticeable is a factor, MKIII is actually a better choice.  My MKII FL parked side by side with Octavia 2014 is just longer...

Have you decided yet @TallPaul_S ?

just to remind you what L&K spec with cream leather looks like I thought I’d “helpfully” attach a picture 😂

I know which one I’d go for, especially as the dearer car is Approved Used. Plus you might be able to haggle a bit off/get a free service or something to ease the pain?

That's petrol blue isn't it? Thanks for the pics 🤪🤔🤣

I'm still undecided, I've tried all I can and the most they'll do is £500 off (it's up at £19k), and with a tank of fuel. No service plan, nothing more.

I've had a couple of videos sent to me and it looks to be in perfect condition, no kerbing on the wheels etc.

It's just the price that's the barrier, if it was £500 less the deal would be done, but at £18,500 it stretches the finances a bit more than I want for a few weeks.

On the other hand, it's got the paddles which most don't seem to have, and it's still under manufacturer warranty until May. It will be due the DSG oil change in about 4-5 months though.

There's just nothing coming on sale at the moment, you'd have thought with the new model out there would be loads around but there's 1 L&K dsg estate for sale in the UK with the towbar!

Glad you got it sorted, I pick mine up on Thursday as well. This will be my 3rd Superb estate but 1st MK3. Enjoy the car, they are great and I am quite jealous of the colour combo you've got.

Cheers, I'll need to find a local friendly VCDS person, I had to go around the M25 to see the car and the amount of drivers sat in the middle lane was stupid! So the undertaking restriction will need to be removed ASAP! 🤣

It's also got the traffic sign recognition, and the boot partition net, and being a 2017 model has the full range of colours for the led strips.

Oh and most importantly, it does the needle sweep on startup! 😁 Had that on my subaru and it might have been a dealbreaker without it!

No roof !.

Nope. 😕

Would have loved a pan roof, but it's one thing that's missing, and only one thing.  Given the choice between a 4 year old car with 50k miles, non skoda approved used, but with the sunroof and a 2.5 year old car, 35k miles, approved used but without the sunroof I'd be a fool to choose the one with the sunroof.

The cream interior is nice and light so that makes up for it a bit I suppose... 🤪

That's the thing I didn't want to compromise on but I'm getting one with a black interior. I am sure you will be more than happy with the car, post some pictures when you get it.

The towbar was the one thing that was a must have for me, everything thing else was a bonus.

Plenty of pics will come! 😁

That looks smashing @TallPaul_S 👍🏻

But then again I am biased 😂

I bet Thursday can’t come quick enough!

I do love the colour, one of the best colours for the Superb I think.

Is it Thursday yet? 🤪😁

Just got 2 more days commuting on the motorbike to get through, I'm at work Mon/Tues then off Wed/Thurs and then back in Friday-Wed. It's not been enjoyable on the bike these last couple of weeks, wet slippery roads, cold (was chilly on the 95 mile motorway ride to MK to go and see the car) and my bike being a 140bhp v-twin, really doesn't like sitting at 30mph in town. I'm looking forward to having a car again for the 6:30am commute!

I'll have a couple of hour train ride across London on the Thursday to go and collect it, but they're picking me up from the train station at least.

One more sleep @TallPaul_S - assuming you can sleep tonight 🥳

Good luck with the pick up tomorrow, enjoy the drive home! I'm also collecting mine tomorrow in the afternoon, will be sad to px the current one that has been brilliant over the last 50,000 miles, but looking forward to a MkIII, will be my first dsg so may take a little getting used to.

The M25 with its lane hoggers OMG. Always gets me when I go on it. Enjoy your new car!

Well I'm home, so is the car!

Had torrential rain on the drive back, it's dry here now. Will try and get a couple of pics before it gets dark.

Firstly, I bloody love ACC with active lane assist 😎😁

The traffic was never free flowing at all on the drive back, and once I'd learnt to trust the acc and that it will stop me it was awesome. The active lane assist is brilliant, even in the pouring rain it was able to see the lines and do 90% of the steering for me, it really doesn't feel like I've just driven for 2hrs 20 minutes. Which is exactly what I wanted in a car.

I stuck it in eco mode, stuck some tunes on the stereo via android auto and it wafted me home in complete comfort. 55 mpg on that trip home according to the computer.

Just a couple things - is there no indicator that the dipped beam is on when the lights are set to auto? They come on after 30 seconds of wiper action but I'd prefer to know they're on and not be one of those idiots driving in the rain with just drls on...

Second - my car has the traffic sign recognition, can you press a button when you go from say a 70 to a 50 (variable motorway limit for instance) to automatically set the acc to the new limit? Think I saw it somewhere in the manual.

I made use of one of the umbrellas on a short pit stop at the services too 😁

And the undertaking thing on acc is really not an issue, it shows another car (an octavia) in the adjacent lane and I just give it a blip of throttle and it ignores it.

So happy for you @TallPaul_S, look forward to the pictures! (Seen you’ve posted these while I was typing!)

as regards the lights warning light, bizarrely there isn’t one but the light switch on the dashboard (the one that you turn to switch lights on etc) does light up (mines green) when the lights are on. Not a great design but it is what it is...

I love Eco mode, especially the coasting function although it doesn’t coast if you’re using the ACC which I think is a bit odd.

in eco mode it’s a bit wallowy though, so I’ve set the “individual “ on the mode button to be eco on gearbox but normal on everything else, which works for me.

I wish you many happy miles of smiles.

Here's a couple of interior pics, the leather could do with a clean which I'll do when I've next got a day off.

So, the sidelight indicator lit means dipped beam is on, right?

Virtual pedal also worked first time for. Probably the only time it'll work now...

Also, could a mod please move this to the Superb Mk111 section, as I'm not really thinking about buying anymore, am I!? 😊

Edited by TallPaul_S

  • 2 weeks later...

Yep, the sidelight icon lit means dipped headlights are on.

Why Skoda removed the dipped headlight icon they used on the MkII right at the top of the dash above the dials is beyond me.

I get fed up of the dipped headlights coming on and going off in between rain showers so if I want headlights on during the day I flick the switch all the way to the right.
