Potential new Superb estate owner

I've got a sunroof on my current car and I think I'd miss not having one, at least it's not a black headlining as that would just be too dark for me. Often during summer I'll do half my commute with the roof open so I use it a lot.

If I end up camping in the car I'll be able to look up out the roof at the stars 😎

I had an Audi A2 a few years ago which had a panoramic roof and it was brilliant, you bring in so much more of the outside with one.

Yeah mine is going up for sale, if I sell it before finding a superb I'll buy a £500 banger to keep me going for the few weeks, then trade that in when I find a superb 😂😁

Right, the Subaru has been sold so I now have £16500 burning a hole in my bank account, with another £1k for a deposit on the credit card.

And... There's 3 DSG Tdi laurin & klement estate superbs for sale in the UK right now. ☹️😐

If anyone spots an auto, estate, diesel L&K with sunroof and towbar, under £18k and under 60k miles please let me know! 👍

Just had a scan around my usual places and really not much out there! Will keep an eye out pal, are you dead set on sunroof?

Sunroof I'd really like, but if a perfect car comes along without one then I wouldn't say no.

The 3 extras I'm willing to hold out for are the factory towbar, vario boot floor, and sunroof. Oh and no black paint. 😁

Yeah black superb estates imo look too much like a hearse 😂 found this one, has everything you're after minus the sunroof 🤞

Yeah I saw that one, the towbar is an aftermarket one, no vario boot floor, and I hate to say I'm not so sure about the brown paint 🤣

Ah **** didn't realise towbar was AM 🙈 yeah the brown is different, i kinda like it but not sure I'd actually get it if it came down to it haha

Nothing wrong with an aftermarket towbar, I just think the factory fitted one is really nicely done, I'd end up leaving a removable one on and probably clout my shin several times on it! Then of course theres no worry about the electrics being done properly with the OEM one 👍

@TallPaul_S out of interest, did you get a cheap banger and if so what is it?

Have fun searching for your Superb!

No, I decided to put my motorbike back on the road, it was SORN but just needed an MOT so I'll commute on that and my pushbike, and use the motorbike to go and look at any cars.

Hopefully it doesn't take too long for a good car to come up for sale.

One thing that really annoys me, looking at car adverts, is the **HUGE SPEC** on adverts on the L&K models, you think "OK, here we go, this will have some extras!" and then no. It's the standard spec with ZERO extras. 🙄😡

There's 2 manual cars with exactly the spec I want, one is a good colour, good miles and a decent price. Must. Hold. Out. for an auto...! 😣

One will come up! Stay strong brother 😂 Although I have a manual and enjoy it very much 😉

You won't regret holding out for an auto.  I was looking in May this year (a Superb was on my list, having had one previously) and the huge spec/massive spec/showroom/mint condition comments were a huge frustration for me.  One car I went to look at at a VW main dealership was 'showroom' 18 months old, 6k miles - except for the four kerbed alloys, significant gouge across the entire glovebox door, stone chips and mess made of the paint on the loading edge of the rear bumper.  None of which were viewable from the advert of course.  Hang on in there - the car for you is out there and you'll find it when the time's right.

Cheers, I know I'll regret not waiting for an auto.

There's one come up on AT, good mileage and price, one owner, pan roof, optional 19" wheels, and it's a 190 tdi dsg - no towbar listed but no pics yet so there's a chance it might have one. On the downside, it's black which would be my least wanted colour...

If it's got no towbar and being black that might be enough to put to the 'no' side. Will give the dealer a call in the morning.

Another car has come up, not an L&K but high enough spec for me to at least go and have a look.

SE L Executive with the 7 speed dsg, pan roof, towbar, heated windscreen, 19" wheels, in white, with 29,500 miles. As it's only 20 miles away I'll take a look.

I'd be missing out on the DCC, front parking sensors, and cooled seats. And the Led interior lighting! That may be the deal breaker... 😁

Hi, if the car you are describing is at the Skoda dealer in Dartford, I have bought it. Saw it last Friday, pickling it up in 2 weeks as they have to do a bit if work on it,refurbing the wheels and sorting out a small dent, don't know why it's still on their website, when I saw it they didn't have any photos but did send me a video before I went there. I have been looking for one with a Pano roof, not many about as you know, don't need a towbar but it's one that sort of stows away so you can't see it unless it's being used. Am pxing my MK2, which also has the Pano roof (and 92k on the clock). As with any advertised car, check they still have it before you travel as they all seem to use them as "bait". Have you tried car guru or cinch for your search, the Skoda website allows you to specify what features you want but when I last looked there were about 29 superb estates with Pano roofs but most out of my price range. Good luck with the search, you just have to keep looking. I'm in Medway by the way and drive to Maidstone every day for work.

Cheers,

Chris

Yeah it ws that one! I called beforehand to see if it was still there, they told me it had been sold a few days back. I go the opposite way, Maidstone to Medway (Chatham) for my commute!

I'll take a look at those sites, now heard of them before tbh. Been searching ebay and autotrader every day now.

Hmm, Ok so found another L&K on Cinch (thanks @ChrisRJ) - properly stretching the budget at £19k but if they moved £500 it would be doable...

2017 so still within warranty, and only 35k miles. And with the all important towbar (and vario bot floor), but no pan roof. 🤔🤪

Edited by TallPaul_S

My Estate doesn’t have pan roof, and having one was high on my wish list as all my recent cars had had pan roof (rarely opened though). Couldn’t get one within budget though...

However, I’ve not missed it at all, with a light interior and light headlining the cabin seems airy and spacious. Plus no risk of roof leak 😂

Might be worth a look and deciding whether the factory towbar and variable floor outweigh the roof...(they did for me..)

  • Author

Yeah the towbar is a 100% must have, getting an aftermarket one fitting is going to cost £500-600, and I'd prefer the factory for one as it's a better solution and you've got no worries with any dodgy electrics.

I think the vario floor can be fitted afterwards, and tbh I would like that as it'll give me the option to camp in the car. There are ways around that though, to fill in the step in the boot. Having the sunroof would make that even better, being able to stare up at the stars at night!

Finding the perfect car is normally a matter of compromise, like buying bike parts: light, strong, cheap. Pick any 2. 🤣

With cars it's spec, condition/miles, price. Pick any 2. Finding all 3 is a rarity!

Hold out for the factory towbar, its a really excellent piece of kit and no aftermarket one will be as convenient to use. If you have the rear camera too, you can look like the best towcar driver in the world by reversing directly under the hitch without any difficulty. Its a great party trick :)

I might be odd, but I'd go out of my way to avoid any kind of pano/sun roof. Just don't like'em for some reason.

Not sure the vario flood can be retro fitted (at least that’s what the dealer told me) although I have seen some neat solutions on this forum which gives the same effect but without the “flick” that you can do with the factory floor to change the height.

agree with comments re the Factory towbar, unless you know it’s got one there’s no visible signs when it’s not in use. That I like a lot.

i also recall reading somewhere that factory towbar also includes upgraded alternator and battery so if that is still true that’s worth having over an aftermarket fitted one.

Cheers - I won't be doing any proper towing with the car (although possibly a single motorbike trailer once), I'll be using it for a towbar mounted bike rack to carry my mtb and gravel bike, it'll get plenty of use though.

Trying to make a decision at the moment on a 2017 (so 2.5 years old) L&K in the lovely Petrol Blue colour with cream leather interior - has the factory towbar, wheel with paddles, vario boot floor, and smart light assist. Condition looks perfect, no damage to the wheels etc. 35k miles too so nice and low.

Only issue it that it's right at the very limit of what I can afford, at £18500. Realistically I'm probably going to be paying around £17k for an older 2015/2016 car with 40-50k miles, for example there's a December 2015 car, 42k miles with a pan roof but no towbar for £17295 at a non Skoda approved used dealer. Vs a May 2017 car for £1500 more (once you've knocked the £300 off the older cars price).

3 years 10 months old vs 2 years 6 months old (and crucially, still under manufacturer warranty) for £1500 extra. Worth it?
