Engine management light

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 2008 VRS CR170 diesel and the engine management light has just come on. Could a blowing exhaust cause this? I noticed that at lower revs (sub 1500rpm) there is a distinct noise that sounds like the exhaust is going and the noise disappears at 2000rpm.

If one of the sensor on the system is reading incorrectly it could bring on the light ... Your best bet is to get a scan done and see what faults it pulls up

Doing so this afternoon... however its now developed a really brutal rattle so its going to the garage.

I'm sorry to hear that fabtron .... I hope it's nothing to serious ....

My EML came on a few weeks back and a scan seemed to indicate an issue with the MAF sensor but the guy doing the scan didn't think it was ... He performed a smoke test to look for leaks on the air intake pipework and it showed up a damaged pipe that connects behind the MAF and one further down which turned out to be a split turbo intercooler pipe... Car was smoking like a chimney when I was driving it and I was worried sick about getting pulled over by the police ... It cost £182 all in to sort if at my local garage yesterday, Tuesday, and the cars now running great but I'd no rattle from it ....

I hope its nothing serious too!

Glad yours wasn't too bad and you got it sorted. I left mine with the garage and they'll get to it tomorrow so I'll get a call Saturday or Sunday with any news. Just sounded horrific...

Turns out my air con compressor had completely fallen to bits chucking its bearings and all sorted parts into the under tray giving the horrendous rattle. It trashed the aux belt too so although a little expensive not the worst case at all. All fixed and drives lovely again.

Nasty enough fabtron but as you say it could've been an awful lot worse ....did you get the issue with the EML sorted out too though

Yes...totally forgot the full explanation as to why the light came on but related to the aux belts going.
