Rapid Spaceback Tyre pressure

Featured Replies

I am trying to find out why is tyre pressure opposite to other Skoda cars meaning that it usually is 2.2 Bar on front wheels and 2.0 bar on back wheels. On spaceback it is for some reason vice versa: front = 2.0 & Back = 2.2

When I changed my tyres the service people pressured the front to 2.3 Bar and back to 2.1 Bar.

They followed some of their guidelines but did not explain why.

Other people told me that not always odes the engine have to have higher pressure but again no one explained why.

Can anyone just confirm it is correct and I am not reading the label wrong? (Front lower than back...)

Any reasons for that?

Thank you.

Petr

I always thought that petrol engined cars had lower pressures on the front as the front tyres will heat up more than the rears meaning that the air pressure will increase inside the tyre. Diesel engines are heavier so I always assumed that they had higher pressures on the front. This of course could be complete nonsense 😁

It's the same on my Toledo, front 2.0 BAR rear 2.1 BAR.

I run it at 2.0 front/rear because coupled with the hard nature of the Bridgestone tyres it just seems over inflated on the rear, I very rarely have more than two people in the car.

Its more to do with the weight distribution of the car than anything else, which is why the fully laden pressure on the Rapid has an extra 12psi on the back but only an extra 2psi on the front - when you add extra passengrs and luggage most of the extra weight goes on the back of the car.

My MX5, which has about a 50/50 weight distribution, has the same pressures all round (with Summer tyres that is).

I checked my pressures yesterday and on the inside of the filler cap, for 17" alloys which my car has, it is 2.2 bar all round.

My last Rapid hatch was 2.1 on the front and 2.3 on the back on 15" alloys. Even the 17"s are coming in at 2.2 front & 2.3 rear

I'm guessing that it's because there is a bit more weight behind the rear axle in the hatch over the spaceback
