Rough running after starting

hmm its not the turbo actuator moving when the car engine goes quieter, dossnt seem to move at all during start up! hmmm

get quieter towards enf of video no actuator movment

I was referring to a different noise with the wastegate, when first pulling away the wastegate seems to stick open too long and it sounds like there's a hole in the exhaust momentarily (the exhaust gasses and noises bypass the turbo which acts a bit like a silencer).

The loud clackety noise you're hearing is probably something to do with the Variable Valve Timing thing, these engines suffer a little from drain-back when not running, so the oil drains out of the engine head (and VVT pulley), and it makes it a bit rough on startup.

They're not the quietest of engines at idle though they are quieter than the 1.2's.

The higher initial idle RPMs are supposedly to do with the ECU quickly relearning air-fuel ratios and timings, and also to get oil flowing everywhere as soon as possible.

Again likely completely normal, just a characteristic of these relatively small low displacement, high performance turbocharged engines.

My 1.0 is the same setting of from cold seems surgy and a bit lumpy 20sec later it’s perfect. Done it from new on every start cold or warm weather.

thought id mention for the last week my car hassnt made the noise on start up it usually does. this is after letting tank run till kinda low then 3 10 quid tesco petrol trips for it to empty v-power out.. car seems to run smoother.. beats me.

Couple days ago, I accidentally tried to set off in 3rd, it didn't stall but instead tried to cling onto life feeling like the engine was trying to rip itself out.

Now the engine mounts seem to have gained some softness or have split, as now i get zero vibrations of any sort in any condition.. on the downside, now i get a large thump as the engine rocks back and forth every time i touch and let go of the throttle!

anyway..

V-Power 99, feels smooth, slightly quieter and slightly better low end torque but also as if it has tiny bit less top end power

Momentum 99, not quite as smooth, same feel of decent low end torque, but doesn't feel as lacking in the top end

Tesco 95, rougher at low end and idle, and noticably less torque around the 1400-1750rpm range (feels almost like its pulling timing a bit), seems to pull well otherwise, seems slightly louder at higher revs too

this for me is the difference between v-power and Shell fuel save they are from the same route (Avg speed 33 mph same driving score -/+1 but just less distance , the 56.5 is fuel save.

still not sure why, might be just me getting used to driving the car. going back to v-power soon to confirm it

These tsi engines are certainly not quiet operators sounding like a bag of nails. All that ticking, fortunately not heard in the cabin. I like the quietness and smoothness of Honda engines

It'll take a few miles for it to adjust to the new fuel anyway. It listens to the knock sensors and then itll adjust timing accordingly.

If i drive gently with my 1.2 i can get 50+mpg on short/medium journeys. On long journeys if i follow lorries i can get close to 60mpg, my best so far was 59.5mpg.

This is my normal commute on the 1.0 mapped to 145. Tesco fuel.

Just normal Tesco not found any difference in premium fuel tbh possibly +1mpg but not enough to pay for it. Just a local mobile remapper APR don’t have any maps for mine yet so waiting for that.
