Service History

Featured Replies

Now that service history and service schedules appear only to be only accessed by dealers i.e. digitally based rather than paper based how does one enquire on a particular cars history?

And for those like myself who keep cars a fairly long time where does one find the service schedule i.e. recommended mileage for expensive things like Cam belts etc.?

When I recently had the 2nd gear stalling software update no record was received just some unwanted details of tyre wear and brake wear, as if on a 3000 miles, few months old car that information was at all relevant!

You have to speak to a franchised Skoda retailer and ask them to share with you the service history.

If the history spans several dealers, you didn't buy the car off that dealer, or the car wasn't originally supplied by them, then they can get funny about providing it to you.

The service requirements are now deliberately hidden, encouraging you to use a franchised Skoda dealer.

It's all a con.

Luckily, it still remains relatively simple...

The only serviceable items changed prior to 3 years old / 60,000 miles are:

- Oil

- Oil Filter

- Pollen Filter (vehicle specific)

The following items come into play after 3 years / 60,000 miles:

- Fuel Filter

- Air Filter

- Spark Plugs

- Brake Fluid

Never pay more than £150 for a service if the car is under 3 years old / 60,000 miles, whether you're on fixed or variable service intervals, if its petrol or diesel.

You can ask in any Skoda dealership for a printout of your cars service history.

You can also ask them for a printout of the servicing schedule.

I've done both* with no issues.

*I didn't require a copy of the servicing schedule,  but the dealership provided me with a copy as it contained a recently updated servicing price list.

Thanks both for your replies.

Anyone any idea what mileage for the cam belt change, my previous Octavia was 40,000 miles.

Assuming that the 1.5 TSI has a cambelt and not a chain!

Many thanks Trifid, that's great!

Did you mean 140,000 miles?

No 40,000 miles.

That was the recommended interval I seem to recall for the 1.6 diesel.

  • 2 weeks later...

Both my MkII Octavia's were 140,000 miles.

40,000 miles is way too low for a cambelt.

I'd agree with that, can never remember VAG having such a low mileage for cambelt change. It used to be every 4yr or xxxx miles, whichever came first. Cambelts are normally changed due to time contraint rather than mileage.

That said, and apologies for going off topic, but someone complained that the current 5yr or 80,000 miles was far too early, then quoted Ford who suggest a change every 10yr. However they failed to point out other manufacturers recommend their belts be changed sooner than VAG does. Take Alfa Romeo for instance - they recommend every 3yr or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.  Ouch!

The Skoda dealership or Skoda Uk can be asked for the service history and both will happily provide you with what they have, but if the car wasn't serviced by a Skoda dealer there will be no record as I found out having bought an ex RRV - serviced by NW ambulance service themselves, so no recorded history either online or in the service book. Mine could have had a timing belt and water pump change but there is no way of knowing and having had one car engine die due to belt failure I'm not prepared to take the chance and that one  had only done 50k right on the change mileage that was specified for it.

I think I may have confused time with mileage for the cam belt change on my previous 1.6D Octavia.

It was 5 years old so I probably had it changed then although the mileage was only around 40,000

Senior moment!
