When did you last check your brake servo vacuum hose?

Found another beauty at lunchtime on a new workmate's 05-plate Fabia.

Check yours today, cheapest bit of diagnostics/preventative maintenance you can do.  Gaffer tape until pipe replaced if significant cracks are found.

Part number is printed at regular intervals along the hard plastic part of the hose.

Don't forget to run your fingers round the underside of those connections, they often crack out of sight on the road-facing sides.

They're of the age now where the plastic is getting very brittle, luckily still available from Skoda / TPS

This is an age old problem too. MK4 Polos and the like were renowned for it at the same kind of age.

Yep, I've seen them on Golfs and Polos.  Weird thing is, when you buy a new genuine replacement, it's identical in material and construction.  Seems VW group think they're fine...

I had this on mine recently, made a big difference, was around 40 quid from the local Skoda dealer iirc

Was he having issues that made you suggest checking it? Or did you just suggest it knowing they are a common problem? Bet he was pretty grateful.

He's a she. The car went into limp mode with emissions light on the day before. Brief visual lookover while autoscanning showed up the above.

Fuel trim (rich), cat efficiency low and misfire on cyl 2 were the fault codes I read.

Bodged up the vac hose with gaffer tape, cleared the codes and none returned during a brief idling session. Apparently she got home OK yesterday and in this morning OK but I'm not back in myself til Tuesday to see what's what with vcds, again.

Possible coilpack failing, I guess, at least.
