Octy VRS II Traffic light Grand prix.

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS II for about a month now and I love it. The one issue I do have with the car is I just can't work out the best technique to get a good start from the traffic lights. I put it down to the short first gear, my last car (Mini Cooper S) had a longer 1st gear so used to bunny hop below 10mph but hit the red line at a higher speed than the Octy making quick starts easy.

The short gear in the Octy means nice smooth driving around tescos car park at 5mph but it red lines relatively quickly if you put your foot down. If I floor it in 1st gear I can tyre smoke and the car shoots to the red line very quickly, I tried pulling away in 2nd gear which is very slow to start but once you hit about 15mph the car picks up and accelerates nicely.

I was just wondering if anyone out there had worked out the best way to get a quick start.

Buy the DSG version :)

sorry me being helpful as ever :)

Turn the ESP/ASR off, 3k revs then careful slippin gof the clutch until you're rolling at a fair speed (for 1st gear)

Pretty much as Goochie says. Feed the clutch in gently. Have to be quick tho, as you say, first does'nt get you far, I usually change into second at around 6k.

Im the same in my MK1 too :S

I'll try what the lads say tonight too though.

Me too, I take off like a sedated sloth until i get into 2nd when I start to catch up

Forgot to mention...... In the wet - Octy 2, leave esp 2 on, as it works very well indeed, without killing the power. Full launch, goodbye car next to you. :D

Sadly, no DSG version released in the new Octavia RS. I wonder will they introduce it later?

How many tyres do you guys go through in an average week?

Reports suggest that they won't because of encroaching into VW/Audi territory. :thumbdwn:
