Irish spec..

Featured Replies

Ill logon via laptop later and do a proper post, but as of the moment, the Irish Configurator only has 2 trim options for the Scala

Ambition and Style.

Style had 17" alloy options as the smallest.

1.0tsi 6speed manual 115bhp is the lowest engine spec, 1.5tsi is listed as is 1.6cr diesel.

I built up a 1.0tsi, style spec to see as a possible replacement for swmbo's  citigo with not much options, candy white paint, parking sensors and the spare wheel kit.

€26400 roughly

Seems like a lot for the size...

Ill paste up the official options list later on.

Three here in Germany; the above plus Active starting at €17,350

Engine Options.

Can't believe how expensive the Scala is in Eire. Crazy charging over 30,000 Euro's for this car when our Karoq 1.5TSi manual was £23,500 including 18" alloys, heated seats, parking camera, front/rear sensors and metallic paint.

Yup. And thats without any options added..

If you want the anti theft, its about 250quid, but you have to also get full kessy which is 260, so the alarm is really 500quid..

Auto boot is around 600 iirc,

They charge 92e for the "boot pack" which is some cargo netting...

Leather is another 1100odd... if you went full on toys and spec you could drop over 35k on a tepid hatchback...

This is what you get for £28,000 in the UK brand new Superb Sportline Plus including Pano Roof, electric boot, electric drivers seat and 9.2" Columbus.

@shyVRS245

That will mean something once you show what the price is of the Karoq you mention in Ireland & in Euro..

&

What is the price of the Superb if you order a MY20 from the factory for delivery after October, do we know?

@mac11irl

Cheers, i will be comparing that with what Skoda Ireland have to offer once they are RDE2 compliant.

So equivalent Karoq to ours is over 33,000 Euro's,ouch.

I can't get the Skoda.ie configurator to load. Is there an espresso machine option?

But easy to earn those Euro's in Ireland and then supposedly a great place to live.

Is it possible to order a UK spec north of the border then import it or does the import duty wipe out any savings? The reason I ask is because one of my customers near Cork picked up a very nice spec Passat in the UK and imported it. He told me that he couldn't get the same spec in Ireland.

The VRT on importing it brand new would negate it. Lots of people import as nearly new @chimaera does it.. and then you can get very good value..

So i just went completely mad, and optioned absolutely everything i could... full beige leather, 18" vega aero alloys, rally green met pai t, kessy, park pilot, lane assist, adaptive cruise, pano roof. Spare wheel everything. No option left un-added was possible to stick in it., even the chrome window surrounds...

Dsg diesel engine...

€42,180.

£39,281.06

according to XE.com just now :D

We get screwed over a few ways here. RHD always adds a little bit for starters.

Then we're a small market, even by European standards, currently seeing around 280000 vehicle registrations per year total (this includes about 120000 used car registrations), so about 160000 new vehicle sales per year. There are no economies of scale, and little incentive to discount heavily compared to larger markets.

Then we have VRT, payable on every vehicle registered in the state for the first time at a minimum of 23 %, on top of VAT at 23 % if you've bought new.

These things all come into play in our used market as well, keeping used prices high here. So UK used imports are a huge thing here (as you can see from the figures above). When I bought my 2012 Superb 3 years ago it was a good €3-4k cheaper than similar cars here, a combination of low-ish UK prices and Sterling that had been steadily on the way down in anticipation of the Brexit referendum. I keep half an eye on UK used prices for curiosity's sake (and to see if I could trade up easily if I'm honest 😁) and they seem to have firmed up for the Superb 2 at least to the point that they're about equal with prices here at the moment. If Sterling keeps going down that could change in the coming weeks/months.

EU rules on trade mean it should be possible to order a desired spec for any country from any dealer in any EU country, but I doubt the importers make it easy to do so. As @mac11irl mentioned, there's VRT to pay on importation, at the new car valuation. NI seems to be a bit stiffer on price than GB (probably the tiny market coming into play again) but sometimes you can get lucky. UK spec levels often being higher than IE makes it attractive nonetheless.

Thanks for that, i knew you'd have actual facts and figures to back up my instinct based response :D

So... who wants to spend 40k on a tricked out diesel scala???

No option for any of the above shmancy german toys...

Pretty sure Lidl/Aldi puts alot of similar product through the specials on occasion though, just them up then :D

Got to see one in the metal yesterday, ended up behind a black magic demonstrator for about 300yds before i turned off.

The S K O D A  across the back would be getting dental flossed off as soon as i got home if i bought one...

Other than that, its a nicely proportioned shaped, the light clusters are bit droopy? Maybe?

Its also got those running indicators that i dislike.

Its an unoffensive vehicle, which i fear may blend into the background noise of every other car on the road 😞

I believe a really basic Scala is also headed to Ireland, steel wheels and all, P

Ive noticed quite a few Vauxhalls on the roads in Ireland, which must have been imported, assuming for the reasons mentioned, seeing as its not as though the Vauxhall brand is more desirable or prestigious than Opel.

All cars in Ireland are Imported, either Brand new or maybe Used from the UK.

Ireland has not much of a Car Manufacturing Industry.

The difference between Opel & Vauxhall can sometimes just be the badges applied as they are coming from the same PSA owned factories.

Just spotted today that with a Skoda Fabia the rear disc brakes are a £100 option in the UK.

Fabia are going basic even on their not basic / cheapest versions.

Yeah and it’s interesting to see which options are available for different markets, such as the Mercedes Benz bonnet mounted star which is available on the C and E class in Ireland but not the UK.
